Ep 23-24: Jailhouse Lock
Really mixed on Pucci's new design, the eyelashes look great but that hairstyle is atrocious.
You know, when Emporio said no one has ever managed to escape before, I thought it was strange. Jolyne already managed it once. How do the keep the stand users inside? Well, this is why.
Jailhouse Lock is definitely interesting, though it falls apart if you think about it for too long. The whole being able to perceive 3 people at a time part seems weird cuz they can perceive the environment just fine? No 3 limit or anything.
Overall I really like this arc but I don't really have much to say on it rn. I felt a bit bad for Gwess. I thought playing Kira's theme while Jolyne rewinds the movie she is watching again and again was a nice touch. Pucci's hat looks cool.
Ep 25-26: Bohemian Rhapsody
I was hoping for some interesting interactions between Anasui and Weather but we don't get much outside of "they care about each other".
The one issue I have with the concept of this episode is that it breaks what little immersion you have. Stories inside stories and all that.
What's with the seven goats story? Who is that even made for? I don't think I'll be reading that to my kids anytime soon.
The way they finished off the stand was pretty cool. Making their own character.
I'm pretty sure there is a part of the jjba fandom obsessed with Dio's kids like with La Squadra but I don't care for them. Ungalo is a bit interesting in the sense that his story is him speedrunning "former drug addict stops after finding their faith". I think it's interesting how this part handles religion. Especially with Pucci.
Ep 27: Sky High
I don't care sorry. This fight not that interesting. One thing I like is how Pucci rallies people for his cause just like Dio. But unlike Dio he doesn't have vampire hypnosis powers so it's just all himself.
(I thought Underworld was the localized name for a second. I think Netherworld sounds cooler. Nether also means under too.)
Ep 28-29: Underworld
I enjoy this arc a lot. The stand fight was great. In a way, it relates to time like Dio's The World.
I can't really give much specifics on why I like it. I thought the aesthetics were great. The outside is dark and stormy. The darkness makes it feel like we are still underground while the storm makes it feel like we are on the air. How these opposite scenarios are merged together is genuinely great.
Emporio sitting there like "Eh?" while Jolyne is yelling about being in a plane crash was really funny.
We haven't seen that Ermes could do something like that with the survivors before so the end feels a bit underwhelming. It's not something the viewer can think of on their own so It's like it comes out of nowhere.
Ep 30-32: Heavy Weather
Okay. This is the interesting part. Mostly Weather and Pucci though. Jolyne and Ermes side plot was nice and all but it's also pretty simple. I don't have much to say on that.
First of all, why did they animated Dio like that. He is under the table and you can only see his elf shoes and when he is gone there is a dust cloud like his some sort of cartoon character. And when he leaves he merges into the darkness in the goofiest way. He is like a fucked up elf of some kind. Very not Vampire-like.
Dio was looking for someone he could trust before he met Pucci. I do think he was contemplating if he could be the friend he is looking for so he is already test the waters by giving him the arrow. There is a very limited set of these so the fact that he just gives him one confirms that. I don't think he was expecting Pucci to be nice to him there. So he healed his foot to gain his trust and pay him back for his help, I guess you could say.
You really gotta appreciate how Dark Rebirth always plays when Dio shows up without fail. Not even when he shows up. He just gets mentioned once and his theme starts blasting.
Pucci and Weather's backstory is just a huge string of very unfortunate coincidences... is what I would say if this wasn't Jojo. Pucci devoted himself to Christianity because he thinks there must be a reason why he lived and his brother didn't. Later when everything else happens this just strengthens his belief. His obsession with fate. But the thing is, fate IS real in jjba. Which makes the message confusing if you think about it for too long. Let's just go through this from the start:
Pucci and Weather are twins to a wealthy family but Weather gets switched for a dead baby and lives is life as the only child of a poor mother.
Weather starts dating Perla, Pucci's and his sister. This is around the time when Weather's mother tells Pucci she stole the baby at the confessional. Now only Pucci knows that Perla is dating her brother.
Pucci doesn't tell Perla this because he wants to keep being a clergyman, along with his religious beliefs. He pays some thug who he doesn't know is part of the k** to break them up. He wants to have his cake and eat it too basically.
The next part doesn't really sit right with me, but I can't really tell why exactly.
What I wrote in this section initially was completely different, but I learned in the manga the thugs who lynch Weather are part of the k**, for some reason?? I can see why they removed that, you shouldn't just put topics like that into your story willy-nilly.
It's weird that Weather is actually mixed but it's so hard to tell that they lynch him because his adopted father is black. Both of his fathers just happen to be black. It's also goofy that there is this whole part about racism yet it affects your basically white characters more than it affects the black one.
The thing is Dragona and Jodio are also blood siblings (Dragona has the star birthmark, unless that's tattoo they should be blood related) and they look nothing alike too. That's fine but I think it'd be cool if Weather and Perla looked mixed. The story could resonate a bit better that way.
Pucci thinks he is at fault here. Yeah, he should have just said fuck it and tell Perla but he couldn't have known things would escalate like this.
I think his obsession with fate comes from this. It's a way to make sense of this whole situation. I also think he blames Weather for this in a sense. He thinks fate is at his side. He has gotten lucky a lot during the show. And he calls Weather a cursed man. He doesn't seem to think fate is something that can be changed (maybe the heaven plan relates to this in some way), so Weather's bad fate is the reason this whole thing happened, in his mind.
I wonder if Pucci is still keeping Perla's soul with him. She isn't a stand user so her memory disc contains her entire soul. Trapping her in a disc seem kind of cruel, no?
Weather's stand not letting him die reminds me of how Star Platinum instinctually protected Jotaro at the start of part 3. The difference is that Jotaro didn't actually want to die, even though no mentally well person would casually shoot themselves like that. Unfortunate for Weather his stand is unbelievably strong so he isn't killing himself anytime soon.
I love that Pucci casually drops that he is his brother and gives him absolutely zero time to process that. He doesn't get a chance to process that now either.
I think Pucci's change in personality is a bit too sudden. Even his voice changes drastically.
We are finally back in current day. You know, Anasui being worried for Jolyne might have meant something if we actually knew why he is obsessed with her.
I love love love the Pucci vs Weather fight. There are a few things like how Weather is still conscious despite loosing both of his legs but gore in jojo has always been over the top.
So the snails . are subliminal messages.. that make you think you are turning into a snail. Okay.
"Oops. Too late. Lol."
It makes the fight more interesting since Pucci is blind for all of it and has to use Anasui as his eyes at one point.
Anasui is useless for this entire fight, not that I mind. Not much he could have done as a snail anyway.
Weather knows if Pucci escapes he is dead anyway. Even if he could have lived he would still not dodge his attack. He has the same strong drive Ermes has. Not to mention Heavy Weather.
I don't think Pucci is being truthful when he says he didn't kill Weather at the prison because he wanted to "save him one day". He might be his younger brother but he doesn't know him. All he knows is that Weather is part of the reason why Perla is that and how he has destroyed his hometown. Someone else might have helped him in that situation but not Pucci. What he says when he takes Weather's memories makes it sound like this is some kind of punishment for him. He has to live all his life with half a soul and no memories. When Jotaro got back Star Platinum he was still in an awful state. Pucci might be saying this because he is still filled with emotion from what happened, if you choose to interpret it that way.
He might have just not killed Weather at the prison because he thought he didn't have to worry about him anymore. If Versus wasn't such a little bitch Weather would never get his memories. This is just what I think though, like everything I write. I might change my mind later.
"You do not realize your own evil. You are the worst kind of evil!" Oof. I mean, it's not wrong. At first I though Pucci was just trying to get others off his back when he said this heaven plan was for all of humanity or whatever. I'm starting to believe he actually thinks what he is doing is ultimately good. Not just for himself. At least he is trying to make himself believe that. That he isn't doing this plan for the sake of power. Power to understand fate, perhaps?
Weather dies, not that the story could have gone any other way. It's sad but it doesn't hit as hard F.F.'s death does, in my opinion. Mostly because we don't see Weather interact with the rest of the cast all that much, outside of Jolyne and Emporio... maybe. His relationship with Anasui is just "they don't like seeing each other hurt". And I don't remember the last time he talked to Ermes. Anasui says "He was one of the people who brought me back to life" but that doesn't tell much. We don't even know why Anasui hanged out with him in the first place. Now he has Jolyne as a reason why but before then? I dunno man I want for the story to do literary anything interesting with Anasui. What makes him tick, Araki? Tell me goddamit.
I went to jojowiki's Weather page to see if I missed any interactions between him and the cast but he doesn't have a relationships page. Oh well.
Ermes saying that Weather was their enemy now back at the hospital only to break down here was pretty sad though I'll admit.
Aannd done. Damn, I can see why people love Pucci so much :) I haven't seen a jojo villain have personal history with a main character like this since Part 1 Dio. They really are similar. Villains in jojo don't really have relationships. For Kira that works for his benefit but the rest? Ehhh...
I was going thru some of the comment while getting the images for this, trying to avoid spoilers and my god some of y'alls takes are just awful. I don't have the energy right now but damn.
⯌ Stone Ocean Ep 13-22 Thoughts
11 September 2023
50% Crying about F.F. %40 Sports Maxx arc %10 Making fun of Anasui. Also Pucci is there.
Ep 13-14
A lot happening this arc. I don't really know where to start. Let's talk Ermes first.
Turns out, Ermes ended up in prison to get revenge on her older sister's killer, who is getting out of prison in a year. Araki says Ermes's position in the story is like Polnareff's (in the stand commentaries iirc) though their arcs are handled very differently.
The most important one is that Ermes's revenge is framed as a good thing. Polnareff got Avdol "killed" in his pursuit. Much like Ermes, he didn't care what would happen to himself as long as he got his revenge. Kakyoin says Polnareff shouldn't go sacrifice himself. They both lack self preservation. They both run on their own and refuse to get help from others. Ermes straight up ran in for the kill and got severely injured for it.
What I'm trying to say is Ermes's revenge is framed as good (mostly) while Polnareff's is framed as bad. Her sister comes from the heaves to hug her when she kills Sports Maxx. She does it alone at the end too. If her arc was a counter-argument to part 3's in some way it would be one thing but it doesn't do that at all. If Polnareff's arc never happened I wouldn't have cared about the message of this arc but It's so hard to ignore it when part 6 is basically the direct sequel to part 3. It's looks like Ermes just got lucky that no one got gravely hurt or kicked the bucket.
I don't wanna be mean. Pol is one of my favourites and I already like Ermes a lot. I don't wanna make it sound like Pol's arc is great either. It has it's own issues.
There is still a lot of stuff I liked though. I liked the visuals and the music of this arc especially. The shot of Ermes landing the killing blow along with the music is obviously amazing, it's over the top but I adore that. The music playing is Dio's world iirc. It plays at the finale of both part 3 and part 4 when the main casts face off against the villain. It plays here because Sports Maxx is Ermes's main villain. I don't think Sports Maxx is cool enough to deserve this theme but I like the effect regardless. I appreciate it when music from part 3 plays every now and then.
This might just be me being an F.F. fanboy but I really liked the part when they shot the alligator straight in the mouth. Determination is one of my favourite tracks from part 6. I might like it a bit more than the main theme.
So she can use her strings to sense movement in the area around her. Ok. Okay.
(This bit is from later episodes but it fits better here)Talking to Sports Maxx, Pucci says "There is a fixed amount of souls in the universe". And then he talks about how if someone had thousands of souls at once. Now I know that this is referring to the green baby, I initially thought this was because there weren't enough souls. Since the number is is fixed souls would get divided in the afterlife maybe. It's sort of interesting to think about. If there are too many souls do they get destroyed? Or jjba has already reached the limit and souls are getting reincarnated. Reused, if you will.
Pucci does care about Dio but I do think their relationship was more transactional than he would like to admit. It's not as bad as Dio but Pucci does treat everyone around him like tools, and cannot trust others enough to connect with them. The concept of heaven is too vague for me to comment on it right now, though I do think it is not as different from Christian kind as you might think at first.
Ep 15-16
Anasui is a character that exists. I saw him way before I got into jjba. I liked his design back then and he still has one of my favourite designs now. I remember seeing a post saying "How can such a naked character have this many articles of clothing" and I think about it every day.
Personality wise... I'm sorry but he is just so fucking boring. He is a murdered that likes disassembling things and he loves Jolyne. That's it that's the whole thing. His specific obsession with "marrying" her could be interesting potentially. Then you could ask "Why does he care about marrying Jolyne so much? What is his view of marriage to begin with? Any personal history about that? Maybe his worldview might relate to it. etc. etc.
Another interesting thing is why he is with Weather and Emporio in the first place. Emporio says Weather is the only person who keeps him in check. I am interested in seeing them interact now.
It's a shame they changed Anasui's gender early on. I love problematic lesbians, if my adoration for Shiori and Homura means anything.
The survivor fight could have been shorter. That's all I'm gonna say I thought it was kinda boring tbh. Other than Jolyne flipping off the guard 4 different ways.
Ep 17-18
F.F. my best friend F.F.
I don't really have much to say about episodes 16 to 20 as it's mostly fighting. I think Dragon's Dream is a cool concept and it was executed pretty well. What can you do against an enemy when fate has their back? This arc also has the issue of being too long I think. Some of the bits drag on for too long.
Jolyne turning to save F.F. despite all her injuries... My heart... I love them..
Ep 19-20
Jotaro not letting anyone take off his hat while in a coma, with no memories and half a soul. Jjba is pretty funny when it wants to be.
Jotaro injuring himself and it just happens to spell Jolyne. And the same cuts show up on Jolyne too. I get some families in jjba have psychic links but this is too much. My suspension of disbelief can only go so far. I can excuse the Dio bone plot but I draw the line at this.
Anasui actually tells F.F. to push Jolyne so he can hug her with zero shame. F.F. rightfully calls this sexual harassment. How does plankton who entered society like a few weeks ago has better morals than him. Get your shit together Anasui.
People loathe Yo Yo Ma. I don't think it is as bad as some say. Don't get me wrong though, it is bad. It's main problem is that it's really fucking boring. I shit you not I almost fell asleep while watching this which is absolutely huge for someone like me who takes an hour to fall asleep. It's not the worst part of jojo but it is up there.
Ep 21-22
Well after the pretty boring stretch we got the last few episodes we get this gem -> completely ignoring the green baby thing
Wow so much to talk about that Dio and Pucci interaction huh. I was initally iffy on what Dio's character was going but I'm loving it.
Do you remember Dio's whole peace of mind way back in part 3? I mentioned it while talking about Kira but I never thought it would be relevant again. Arakkiiiiii please more of this.
So firstly, this pretty much confirms peace of mind is what Dio seeks despite talking about humans. Dio from birth had absolutely zero time to chill, he couldn't trust anyone, he couldn't depend on anyone. Pucci is the person he is closest to but even then he cannot fully trust him.
This is just speculation from my part but maybe that's what heaven is? That serenity, the ease. For someone like Dio who has made so many fucking enemies by this point that peace of mind is not really possible for him outside of reaching heaven. Much to think about.
Also Leonardo Da Vinci is a stand user. This is the jjba equivalent of Joan of Arc being a magical girl in pmmm to me. Why would you tell me this.
Araki can't play with my heart like this. I thought F.F. might make it for a second.
F.F. started to have flashbacks and all I could think was "It's so over". The fight with White Snake was incredibly tense. Having a stand disc like that on hand was a good idea from Pucci.
The moment when Weather caused rain to help F.F. was so hype. It's a good comeback. I always love seeing White Snake suffer. He is annoying as shit.
Jolyne hugging "Weather" was really wholesome despite what we learn later. Despite what Anasui thinks I don't think there is gonna be a romance between the two. More like a positive male figure in her life (Which she seems to lack).
Then here is my least favourite insulting my fave and you already know what I'm gonna say. It would be one thing if Anasui talked shit about F.F. after Ep 22. But Anasui just keeps going on about how they don't deserve to live and that they are lesser because they aren't human and dude. F.F. hasn't even done anything. They only told you to stop being a immature baby about Jolyne hugging a guy when they've got Pale Snake to deal with, rightly so. I'm not even mad I just have no idea why he is reacting like this. All this shit talk over nothing and F.F. still decides to save Anasui instead of themselves.
I didn't see the reveal coming at all. It's was as much of a surprise to me as the characters because 1. I am dumb 2. I don't think Pale Snake has shape shifted up to this point.
Pucci's remarks about how much Jolyne has grown is definitely true. I thought she was just as immature as the other protags despite being older than most of em but that's definitely not the case anymore. My girl ate the musrooms growing on her bedframe in prison. Just to get a chance at saving her father. She has definitely grown... Stone Free grew with her too.
F.F. is not the most unique character. There are so many media that has handled "someone with a newly acquired consciousness learning what it means to be alive" trope way better. But I still found it heartwarming. They are just happy to be there and I appreciate that. They have memories and people dear to them. F.F. didn't have a life before meeting Jolyne. Living a life gave them a reason to sacrifice it for their loved ones. They have a soul now and here come the tears again
Love getting emotional about jjba because I will look at what I am actually crying at and it's the goofiest most nonsensical shit ever and I instantly stop
One thing that's weird is why F.F. without a body looks like Atroe instead of their normal design. Their soul too. I know why they did it and it was the better choice probably. To us Atroe look is F.F. Plus it's easier to make it emote than the Foo Fighters form.
⯌ Stone Ocean Ep 1 - 12 Thoughts
7 September 2023
- The main characters in part 6 have great designs. I think they might be my favourite. I like how much green, blue and gray is used. The core cast also has accents of yellow and orange, to give it a warm twist.
- (This is a tangent but one thing I don't get is why does eveyone have their shoes connected with their pants. I guess since they are inmates they wouldn't need to take them off all that much but what about Jotaro? Does he walk in his house with the shoes he used outside? Do Americans do that? I checked and apparently some of them do. I don't understand at all. You are just making more work for yourself.)
- The side characters I am a bit more mixed on. They don't hit the spot for me personally. They aren't all that memorable. Except for Gwess maybe.
- The animation is worse that vento aureo imo but it has the issue of being overly detailed like it. I've always loved hatching but this just feels like extra workload. I don't understand why DP is so adamant about following the manga as closely as possible. I still like the animation but I've been thinking this for a while.
The Main Cast
- Jolyne: I like her. She is like if Joseph wasn't a piece of shit. She is kind but not a pushover. She is suppose to be older than most of the other protags but she acts similarly to them. She can be very reckless sometimes but she doesn't really experience the consequences of that, not yet anyway. I am not saying these to insult her at all. She is the JoJo whi gave the bedt first impression to me. I also find it funny that the moonlight is enough to turn her on. My girl is an artist, a poet even.
- The daddy issues are pretty obvious. She tries to catch his attention by commiting crimes. This need for attention shows a bit in her relationship with Romeo also.
- Stone Free is 👌🏻👌🏻. My one complaint about her design would be that she doesn't have much interesting going on below the chest. The dotted pattern is cool but it doesn't give an interesting siluette. It's powers are the best part. She is close range like Star Platinum but she can unravel her arm to get range like Sticky Fingers. Stone Free is like if Hierophant was op. It's is faster, has more attacking power, seems more durable also, it allows Jolyne to unravel herself as well. My main issue is that it seems to pull shit out of its ass sometimes with just how much its strings can do.
- Ermes: She is the more experienced one as she has been to prison before. She is the angry to Jolyne's cool. Thus she has the most warm colors in her design! Jolyne was always a delinquient but Ermes definitely one ups her in that regard. She is a lot more blunt and less trusting. She is also suppose to be masculine in the way she talks. She still has a feminine design though. I wouldn't really call her butch.
- I don't like her stand though. I got a bit used to it but even still. It just looks ugly. I'm not too keen on its powers either. It damaging the copy when it merges hinders it more than it helps most of the time.
- F.F. : I didn't imagine they would end up being so goofy. Their first appearance made them seem uninterested in connecting with humans but that couldn't be further from the truth. They are more than happy to talk once you get to know them. They are really excited about everything and I just find that lovely to be honest. I got a lil emotional when Jolyne saved them. Maybe shed a tear or two. Perhaps. I also love their design. The hat (?) is adorable. They contrast with the rest of the gang pretty well. They are my favourite so far :)
- Emporio: Emporio is one of those characters that is hard to hate. I can't really find much to say about him yet. He is more of a plot device at this point. There is a lot you could do with him. He has literary grown up inside a prison. He has a lot of potential.
- Weather Report: He seems like a nice person. I like his design a lot like the others. Especially the hair-hat. His memories were stolen by Pucci. It makes you think. Why is he in prison in the first place? I read somewhere that him and Pucci are brothers. That would explain some things.
- Jotaro: Divorcecore Jotaro is here with his most insane fit yet. I have a lot to say I also have nothing to say. Just look at him. I'm not really surprised Jotaro "I am going to put myself in prison because I am afraid I will hurt my close ones" Kujo would separate himself from his family to protect them. Stands attract other stands, sure, but Jolyne would have been targeted by Dio's servants regardless since she is a Joestar. What if something like that happened while Jotaro was away? She got into prison before she got a stand and she would have gotten killed there. I don't really know what to think of Jotaro at this point. I remember when people were talking about this a few years ago. Almost all my mutuals are into jojo for some reason so I saw Stone Ocean in my dash a lot.
- In the eye catches there was some text under the development potential of Star Platinum but I didn't wanna bother translating it.
- Pucci: Imagine Dio being your best friend in 40 years of being on this Earth. I find hit hard to think Dio having a connection with anyone let alone a 16 year old who he spent a year with max. He says he met him in 1988, Sdc took place that year also I think.
- Pucci saying Dio has a century worth of wisdom is pretty funny cuz while he is that old, he slept thru most of that so he is still pretty young.
- Also, I just think it's silly that Pucci's entire plan relies on Jotaro still remembering the contents of a book he read more than 20 years ago at this point. Not to mention the few pages he read just happening to be the ones Pucci wants. That makes Pucci seem like a moron but it is funny so I'll give it pass.

I'm sorry but meteorite stand virus is such a stupid concept. They should have just kept the spirit hamon explanation.

1 September 2023
They saw people's reaction to KQ vs Crazy Diamond and said "what if we did more of that?"
Top of Bruno's head looks a bit funny but I like him already. Sticky Fingers is a cool stand. He even said "Why didn't you kill me?" like the other jobros haha

⯌ Diamond Is Unbreakable Ep 30 - FINALE Thoughts
31 August 2023
This is gonna be a big one. Part one of two maybe?
Ep 30
Kira Yoshikage's no good very bad day.
Shinobu is not good with cats for someone who supposedly likes them.
I've always loved cats so seeing them hurt upsets me a bit more than other animals. Funnily enough, dogs die a lot more in jjba than cats but I'm pretty sure Araki likes dogs more.
I was going thru jojowiki's interview archive and found this interesting bit from Araki:
To me, dogs symbolize loyalty and friendship. All you cat lovers out there might be wondering why I didn't pick a cat, but I feel like a cat would betray them somewhere along the line (laughs wryly). They may be a playmate for you, but they're not your friend. I always end up putting cats on the enemy side, like with how the elder D'Arby used them to cheat which might say something about how I view them."
It's a bit sad that he thinks cats can't be companions like dogs but that explains a lot about Kira's heavy association with cats right? He has the "personality of a cat" too.
Let's talk about Shinobu and Hayato for a bit.
I do feel bad for her, her situation is definitely not enviable. My sympathy starts to run dry when we see how she treats Hayato, though. She is upset he isn't trying to build a connection with her as if it isn't her responsibility to do that. I think it's pretty clear that she doesn't like him because she views him as the reason why she is stuck in her marriage. Well, this is a sensitive and long topic so I'm cutting it here.
Speaking of Hayato, I like him. I wasn't expecting that considering how late he was introduced and how easy it would be to fuck it up. He helped a lot the move the plot forward. Watching him struggle and find a way to break through Bites The Dust was really entertaining (which I will get into later). There is one major thing about him that's hard to ignore and that's how he doesn't feel like an 11 year old at all. What kind of 11 year old installs cameras in their house to spy on ther parents? What's funnier is that the show ignores this like it's normal. As if everyone spied on their parents when they were in elementary school. It's so unnecessary too. Having him get suspicious about Stray Cat and learning Kira is an impostor while hiding would be enough. I'm not like, upset at this I'm just really confused.
Stray cat acts on base instincts moreso than the other animals we have seen like Iggy and Pet Shop. It's weird that some animals are as smart as humans while other's are more like themselves.
I was initally confused on why they set up Kira having affection for Shinobu as it does not get brought up ever again. I think it's to give a reason for why he doesn't kill her. His need to kill grows stronger by day but he can't kill Shinobu without messing up the plot.
Ep 31 - 34
Okay, so, the next four episodes catalogue four different events happening in the same day all at once. Which is pretty cool. Diu has a big cast so of course we'd want to utilize them all, right?
Superfly
I like this part the least, not because it's bad or anything. I just think other parts have more to offer.
Mikitaka just waited there as binoculars and hoping Josuke and Okuyasu would happen to walk there. It worked but. I feel like he made the situation worse? If he hadn't pointed it out Josuke and Okuyasu wouldn't go in the tower to begin with.
Enigma
This stand is way too cool to only appear in two episodes. The design of the actual stand itself is a bit boring but the effects. The effects both look and sound great.
You need to make your target show their sign of fear twice for it to work. It reminds me of D'arby in that way. The interesting thing is that Terunosuke can also store items and himself in paper. If this stand was given to someone who is not a psychopath it could still be really useful.
D:
Yuya gets some time to shine. We are reaching the end so it was either gonna be now or never. I like his design fine. I can't say that his face heel turn was forced since we knew very little about the dude before anyway. I think it's funny that the reason he helps Josuke is because he would be very upset if this happened to one of his girls. Good job Yuya, you are experiencing compassion, and empathy! I also like the way he says "Highway Star!!".
Highway Star is not an outstanding design or anything but I do like the way the zipper on his chin looks like a pointy beard.
My main issue with this part is Terunosuke being turned into a book for the rest of time. He sucks but he is nowhere as bad as Angelo, I don't really think he deserves a fate worse than death like him. It's weird that Josuke causally does these things too. You could mention Giorno but he isn't even aware of GER's power. GER says so himself.
It's a bit unfortunate that the only dark skinned character in Part 4 literaly turns into an object. I don't think Araki intended this obviously but it's there now.
Cheap Trick
What kind of pranks Rohan has been pulling for Koichi to think this was a joke?
Curiosity killed the Rohan. I'm sure this is not gonna foreshadow anything.
Rohan always gets the weirdest stand fights I swear. They all specifically counter Heaven's Door in some way. Heaven's Door is juuust at the edge of being too OP. It's awkward to work with in some aspects. I'd say having Rohan actually write the commands instead of them naturally appearing would make more sense. This would make it even worse at fights but it's not meant to be that. I don't mind the stand as is though, it's literary called 'Heaven's Door" it's meant to be busted. Plus, Heaven's Door is adorable, it can be a lil OP, as a treat.
Cheap Trick looks like it has a diaper on. It looks like a baby if you squint hard enough. A lot of people do feel "trapped" by their kids, so uhh lol
Killer Queen
Kira finally goes in to for a kill. Unfortunately for him Hayato is a freak and has been following him thr entire time. It's entertaining to watch but it doesn't reveal anything about Kira that we don't already know.
Ep 35-36
There are a lot of great things about the Bites The Dust Arc. One thing I wanna mention is just how hopeless the situation feels. At first for Kira and then for our crew. Like,
Episode 35 starts with Kira getting checkmated by a child. He can't kill Hayato but he can't let him go either. Kira is incredibly arrogant but I wouldn't say he is impulsive. This was enough to get to him though, he kills Hayato without thinking and puts himself in the worst situation possible.
He isn't even trying to keep cover at this point. Changing his hair to symbolize that.
You could say Kira gaining a new ability was a stupid asspull, I don't mind it at all. Stories like conflict and giving a villain powerups will create more conflict, unlike deus ex machinas, which remove them. Some people get really upset about those but idrc. I thought Jotaro being able to stop time was a really cool reveal. It's a bit lame that it didn't get foreshadowed at all but it's not the end of the world for me. It is the end of The World for Dio though :D
Bites The Dust activates. Seeing Hayato alive was weird enough but then you see Kira the most confident yet. He is so confident in fact that he straight up tells Hayato his real identity.
Kira is such a huge moron. He basically has the world at his side and he still somehow manages to fuck it up. I'm surprised that got away with murder for 15 years without Killer Queen or anything.
Kira revealing his identity becomes shortly relevant when we see Rohan, with what might be his best fit yet. I'm not sure about the gloves though.
I love how they did this scene. The slow reveal of Hayato's pages seeing the future. The music stopping and Rohan's voice getting lower and lower as he realises what is happening.
The protags and their allies are almost always very selfless. Rohan is going to die yet his main concern is telling others Kira's identity. Much in the same way Kak's last thought was telling Joseph The World's power. Also similar to how the last thing Ceasar does is get the antidote for Joseph. I don't really like how samey the allies are in that regard. At points, their total lack of self-preservation annoys me. I wanna talk about this more on another post but I doubt I'll do it.
I was a little sad about Rohan dying but I was mostly sad for Reimi. I did feel bad when she called him "Little Rohan". Imagine being Reimi in that situation.
And another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dusttttt
I like the simple set-ups and pay-offs this arc. You learn Hayato has most likely rewinded time before, then you see "Rohan Kishibe also died. You are shown whoever dies during Bites The Dust is fated to die again, then we are shown Hayato getting caught by out crew. Makes the moment infinitely more tense.
Also, i's incredibly concerning one of the first things Hayato thinks of is to kill himself. He is like 11!
I love that Killer Queen shows up to look at Hayato dead in the eyes. Hayato can't see stands, Bites The Dust is an independent stand. Killer Queen shows just enough emotion in these scenes to make you think. Not enough to be sure of any interpretation. I think that's a cool detail... Killer Queen in the manga doesn't have the intense look of her anime counterpart.
It was around at this point when I started think "I have no idea how they are going to get out of this."
Hayato calling Josuke for help was pretty smart! Kira not being able to use his stand while Bites The Dust is active makes a lot of sense. I feel stupid for not figuring that out sooner.
Little man omg
Ep 37-38
I have a lot to say about this part but I also have nothing. There are a lot of small things so.. a lightning round:
- The red glow of Killer Queen's eyes looks amazing. Combined eith the art and the animation she is just so menacing. Like in her initial appearance.
- I appreciate that Josuke mentions Shigechi.
- The fight between Crazy Diamond and Killer Queen was smooth as hell. The fights in Jojo are moreso about outsmarting the enemy and beating them up is the reward. You don't see them trade blow for blow like this.
- The colors are especially nice too. Greenish blue Crazy Diamond is pretty.
- Killer Queen being bad at fighting due to Kira's no conflict policy is not something I thought about before, but it makes a lot of sense. Of course someone like him wouldn't have a stand great in combat.
- Kira saying he despises conflict more than anything else made me thing of Dio's whole "Peace of mind" speech. The thing human psyche wants is secure serenity and all that. I'd say this applies to Dio as well even though he doesn't consider himself human. This isn't about him though.
Now that those are out of the way... let's talk Okuyasu's "death". I initially hated it, I like it a bit more now. Kira turning the dying Okuyasu into a bomb like Aya was brutal. When Terunosuke threw the paper with Koichi's name, Josuke went after it despite calling it bait. He said even if there was a minuscule chance of it being Koichi, he had save it. He knows that Okuyasu is a bomb but he cannot accept that. If the slight chance of him not being a bom was true, and he didn't save him, he would not be able to live with himself.
Josuke being in denial that Okuyasu died like how he did with his grandfather.
The way Crazy Diamond and Killer Queen contrast each other is lovely. KQ's ability stopping Josuke from healing and how CD can reverse Kira's explosions.
Okuyasu finally making a choice for himself and coiing back is a nice cap to his character arc. It was a really wholesome moment.
My main issue with it is I don't really like fake-out deaths. I don't think Araki is good at writing them. This was true for Avdol and it's true for Okuyasu. Just imagine if this was the way Okuyasu died for real. Gets killed out of nowhere at the end just so Josuke could have a sad moment. At first I thought maybe another bites thr fust would happen because it didn't feel right for him to die this way. But then the show kept insisting he was dead.
I felt like there were a lot of ways to do this without doing a fakeout death at the second to last episode of Part 4.
On a side note, I don't really understand how the dried blood works exactly? I don't understand how Kira can control the air bomb. Sure, he turned that thing into a bomb but it is Stray Cat who can control those things to begin with. Idk idk.
They used Dio's theme at the end there. Fits the moment well
Ep 39 - Epilogue
This my favourite episode in all of Jojo so far. I think I've watched the confrontation with Kira over 100 times at this point. It has the exact same effect on me cocomelon has on little kids haha
Kira's confession is already funny as is but then there is Killer Queen's thousand yard stare. She does NOT want to be there.
Everything about Kira's defeat was just so good. The animation, the colors, the sound effects, the voice acting, the timing it just hits the right spot.
More evidence that Star Platinum can say things other than ora. Also, you really gotta love how they used the exact same music that played before Dio "killed" Joseph.
The intense music that hits when Jotaro and Rohan run towards Kira only for him to activate Bites the Dust. The effects were amazing. It makes tou think though, is this what you see when you die or is it from Kira thinking Bites The Dust activated. Who knows. (I can't believe jojo actually fake outed us with the fake BtD lol)
I love how everyone got to do something. Rohan and Reimi found Hayato. Hayato defeated Bites The Dust and let Kira be found by the crew. Josuke gravely injured Kira, Okuyasu got rid of his air bombs. Koichi gave Jotaro enough time for him to stop Kira for good. Reimi gathered everyone for help and sent his ass to hell at the end. Even my boy Arnold got to bite Kira's hand and help Reimi.
Part 4 is focused more on the group as a whole instead of Josuke like Parts 2 and 3. And that's okay. I hear some people say Josuke got done dirty but he has arguably carried the team harder than Jotaro did part 3. Only person who did almost as much as him was Koichi. People say Jotaro stole the spotlight from Josuke but Koichi did way more than Jotaro.
I'm not crying about Reimi leaving, you are
It's so wholesome how Reimi treats Rohan like he is her younger brother. It's common here for little kids to have high school students who they look up to for help, a neighbor or a cousin of some kind. When you are so little sophomores feel like grown adults. It's more of a cultural thing as not all of them give a lot of importance to neighbors and extended family. I couldn't help but make the connection though. Not sure how it is in Japan.
Okuyasu looking after Stray Cat... Thank you Araki for not killing them off.
Shout out to Joduke for stealing Joseph's money. He deserved it.
Jotaro leaving Morioh on a boat instead of a plane cuz Joseph's there. Memories.
AND DONE. Actually not really. I wanna give some general thoughts about Part 4 later since this is more of a episode by episode thing. I still have some stuff to say unfortunately.
This took so much longer than part 3. I think there was a lot more stuff to talk about in part 4. You can definitely see why so many people have it as their favourite.
Uhh see anyone reading this after I finish Golden Wind. I'm gonna binge it this time. And liveblog just a bit.

If Okuyasu ends up dead for real I am not gonna forgive Araki. He already did the "I will kill one of the main characters at the start unceremoniously to show the villain's power" thing with Avdol. It wasn't good before and it isn't good now.

I feel like this arc would have worked just fine if it was a single episode. I think it drags a bit too long.
Our new character for this arc is Shigechi. I think his design and stand is way too good and it's a shame he is only in a few episodes before he dies. Characterwise he needs work, the show tries too hard to make you feel bad for him in the end. But that's because he only has like 2 episodes to build his character. I can't help but like him though. He is a prick but in his defense he is like 12.
Design wise they are both simple and unique (in Jojo). Which is a hard combination to find in jojo I think. Plus they are really goofy, especially Harvest. Onto the episodes:
It's funny that Josuke has a stronger reaction to having no cash on hand compared to Red Hot Chili Pepper almost killing Okuyasu. If I had Crazy Diamond my whole life I would be the same way too probably but It's still funny to think about.
Okuyasu is quickly becoming my favorite character. His expressions, his voice all come together to create an absolute goofball.
I will never forget jojo fans for what you guys did to Kakyoin. He says one awkward line and the jojo fans won't shut the fuck up about it for years yet Okuyasu -who called someone's mom hot when he first saw them on multiple occasions- flies under the radar somehow. I am thankful for it, I wouldn't want Okuyasu to get the same treatment too.
Speaking of him, I've been looking thru sdc stuff and wow do people want him in part 4. Making "What if they were alive?" AUs are a common thing obviously but I've never seen it be this huge. Sometimes I'll see part 4 posts where Kak (Sometimes Avdol and Pol too) will be in it without acknowlegding that they are dead (missing in Pol's case). They are just there.
I do get why, Morioh is brimming with stand users and most of them aren't trying to kill people Kak's whole thing is that he is lonely because he can't find other stand users like him. Also I've read CDDH and apparently he is from Morioh. I think we don't need another crusader when Jotaro is part of the main cast already but the thought of Kak with heart shaped sunglasses is not lost on me.
I was gonna use another screencap but this is funny out of context
Do they don't know they can jump high with their stands? Maybe it's something you have to learn.
Ep 20
Wow...... I wonder what the message of this episode is.
It's generic and subtle as a brick to the face but for someone like Araki? who only stumbles onto themes on accident? This is huge.
It makes a lot more sense for Yukako to be still be with Koichi, instead of, "Just being able to like him is enough for me" act she had going on.
Our stand user for this arc is Aya. She speaks like she has low blood pressure and she like invading people's personal spaces.
I laughed out loud when I first saw her stand. Those are not boobas those are kikis. I do like her stand. It might just be my bias towards pink.
He brings Koichi with him everywhere because he is the only person that can tolarate him. He is just some guy. Josuke is suppose to be the type of character you wanna be friends with but everyone loves Koichi cuz he is just a guy. The funniest thing is that is the exact reason Yukako gives as to why she likes him. He is like the token cishet of JoJo.
Honestly? I like Yukako. I wasn't really expecting it cuz I hate yandere/tsundere or whatever type characters but she is entertaining just because of how off of her rockers she is.
My favourite part of the episode is when Koichi tells Josuke and Okuyasu he and Yukako kissed and Josuke almost falls from the window from shock while Okuyasu looks like he has died.
And then Josuke goes "What did you say she did to you?!? That girl never learns" because of course he would think she forced him to do that, considering her track record and all.
Josuke's reaction after hearing Koichi say he likes her to says everything. Like girl what.
I love how Josuke is just casually talking all the while Okuyasu is crying in his arms. Later Josuke still has one hand on his shoulder while Okuyasu cries but he is also completely ignoring him. Love that for them.
It's so wild that Koichi tells Aya to fucking *blind him* just so Yukako won't feel bad. Both of these people are insane and they deserve each other.
Nice attention to detail that he asks Aya to blind *his stand* since he can see through his stand's eyes otherwise.
Ep 21
While I was watching this part i was like there is no way he is gonna li- ohh noo
One thing I really like about Kira is that we will sometimes see what he is up to from his perspective. It's partially here but really shows up in the Stray Cat arc. He is not the type of guy to be plotting or thinking about the heroes all the time so it's just Kira's adventures. His silly adventure. And he is being incredibly pathetic about it with the most smug expressionsyou've ever seen.
Plus it's fun seeing the heroes from an outside perspective for the entire episode.
They say your stand reflects your soul. I have no idea what a wrestler cat with a thousand yard stare is suppose to say about Kira.
Killer Queen is the best stand btw. I will not debate on this. Just look at her. Kira doesn't deserve her, she is way too good of a stand for a guy whose whole thing is wanting a quiet life (besides the murders) (ignore the murders).
Ep 22
Araki reeeally wants to make you feel sorry for Shigechi. How am I suppose to believe people will just ignore a fellow student on the verge of death just because he is ugly. If it was some strangers down the road then yeah sure but this just looks stupid.
Shigechi going to heaven in the exact same state he was in when he died. Crusaders also get stuck in the same expression when they get their souls ripped out of their body. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not.
"I doubt he'll come to my shop but I'll keep an eye out." Girl you have NO idea
Seeing Koichi next to Jotaro you'd think he is around 90cm or so but apparently he is suppose to be 157cm. I was looking at the Jojowiki and noticed that earlier. The canon weights for the characters make zero sense btw.
Koichi:"Rohan always forces me to go to places" Andkasjskdshsjs??
Ep 23-24
What the fuck happened here.
Sheer heart attack is like the world's most evil roomba. If I was kire I would simply tape knives on that thang and set it loose inside my house.
I hate Koichi's shieking so much it's unreal.
I think the remote control stands are a really cool concept. Kira functionally having two stands though? Ehhhh... I not a fan of that to be honest. Sheer Heart Attack is basically it's own stand, sure, it's gimmicky but it's also really strong if you don't know how it works. I understand why Araki would want to break the rules for Killer Queen, It's hard to make her look like a threat compared to Star Platinum or Crazy Diamond.
Sheer Heart Attack bring completely neutralized by such a simple trick is why I love stands so much. Hamon is like if everyone had Mew but with different levels and moves. Stands are more like "everyone has different Pokemon but they are all at the same level". Some are obviously stronger than others but even the strongest ones have some sort of trick or Pokemon that counters them, or at least checks them.
I think Act 3 is less interesting compared to act 2 design and ability wise.
You know, I thought Kira's theme was too goofy for me to take seriously at first but it did hit pretty hard here.
I did say I don't like Koichi's VA very much but his confontation with Kira was pretty good.
Fucking christ.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how good the English dub is. Especially Kira (and Jotaro but I already talked about him during part 3).
Ep 25
The way they handled Kira's new identity is genuinely cool. As mentioned in this episode, Kira doesn't have anyone he is even remotely close to. Not having any dynamics with other people could definitely work for a character but it could also make them boring.
Kira now has to deal with Shinobu who is in a full marridge feeling love for the first time when Kira replaces her husband, and Hayato who is definitely knows something is up because he has never seen his parents have a positive interaction before, ever.
This is before Araki had the most horrible case of same face syndrome so Kira's new face does look slightly different. I like that his pitch black eyes get a pink glow whenever he summons Killer Queen.
I don't have much to say on this and the next few episodes. The Hand doesn't get a change to do anything, again, god forbid.
Ep 26
Rohan jumping in front of the bus Jesus style was pretty funny and I liked Rohan and Joseph's interactions. I also like Shizuka otherwise this episode sucks I don't wanna talk about it more
Ep 27
This episode and the one after it straight up confirm aliens are a thing and knowing Araki, I doubt this will come up again ever.
Mikitaka is actually just like me for real because I too lose my shit whenever I have to hear sirens and alarms (Misophonia)
I think he is a bit too generic, I also don't like how mamy symbols he has on his outfit. Also someone buy him brown contacts.
It's really funny that the first thing he does with an alien friend who can shapeshift is: take Rohan's money in a bet and piss him off.
Ep 28-29
Love that the op starts right after Rohan stabs himself.
He knows that Josuke wouldn't leave without healing him. Also because he is insane and willing the hurt himself and let his house burn down just to know how Josuke cheated.
I like the interactions between the two of them a lot. Josuke annoys him sure, but Rohan is a petty and stubborn asshole who gets upset just at the though of Josuke being happy. He is mad at Josuke for beating him up even though he knows Josuke beats the shit out of people who insult his hair. There is no way that isn't written in Koichi's files. He is just upset that he is experiencing the consequences of his actions. He is beefing with a 15 year old.
The action for this arc is pretty good.
I normally don't mention this because they tend to be brief but the sniffing and the walking noises Highway Star makes annoys me to no end. I am really bad with this stuff.
I especially like the addition of Koichi. He can be a piece of shit sometimes, like in the lock guy episode. I find that pretty funny personally.
It's been a while. I was on vacation for 2 weeks so I didn't have much time to write this.
I don't think I am going to do these posts for part 5 because I will not be able to finish the show otherwise. I don't watch new episodes before I write these (except for maybe a few) since I prefer it that way. I still might do something similar for part 6. We'll see. The issue is I wanna write all my thoughts but I am not good at being coherent.

I think it's a shame that every part's main group has at least one sentient stand except for the crusaders (Echoes, Sex Pistols, Paisley Park etc etc), especially since Star Platinum is already so close to being one.
Look, it even speaks to Jotaro.
I guess since it is the first stand we see it's suppose to simple. But I don't care! Give me sentient Star Platinum!!
⯌ Diamond Is Unbreakable Ep 8-18 Thoughts

Ep. 8-9
Yukako has so many issues god bless
I've taken a liking to her design. Her color scheme goes together well, her hair has a lot of character and I do like the rose emblem on her outfit.
Her stand, Love Deluxe, plays th
e
prehensile hair
trope straight, other than her ability to control her hair even when it is not attached to her scalp. I like the name but I find this type of stand boring to be honest.
I'm not really interested in Yukako as a character, unless she gets something more later on. The funniest thing they can do is pair her and Koichi together. "Me and my girl don't argue, she tells me to shup up and I do" and such.
Josuke and Okuyasu were nice this episode. We learn that Crazy Diamond can't bring back anything The Hand deletes. Just goes to show how opposite their powers are.
Koichi is not really my cup of tea. I appreciate him being part of the group but solo episodes with him don't really interest me. Plus his voice is incredibly grating in both sub and dub. It's interesting that he set up that rock so that Yukako wouldn't die, you gotta be really confident that you'll win if you are worrying about the safety of your opponent.
Hey, Koichi with the new hair kinda looks like... No I shan't say it.
Let's talk about Echoes. My boy. My lil man. Look at his lil smile :) My favourite stand from part 4 so far. It seems to emote on its own sometimes, like Star Platinum who smiles every time it gets a chance to beat someone up. I like it when stands emote on their own. The fanworks do this a lot but jjba itself rarely does it. Which is a shame.
Ep. 10
This is just 20 minutes of Okuyasu having nice things happen to him and I think that's just great. If I had so say my one gripe (and be a killjoy), it would be that it doesn't tell us much about Okuyasu and Josuke that we don't already know. The best thing about filler is that it gives us characterization and I don't think this episode has enough of that.
Okuyasu and Josuke fighting reminded me of the Death 13 episode except Polnareff was infinitely more stubborn
Also this is a great time to just give the VAs the biggest shout out cuz wow I love them. Especially Okuyasu I love the way he says Josuke. It brings me joy. They are perfect fits for the characters they are playing. I can hear Tonio's accent but I know fuck all about Japanese so It might be horrible, not my problem tho.
Ep 11 - 12
I think Tomoko is one of my favourite female Jojo characters so far. The bar is on the ground, but, you know. Take what you can get.
I don't get why they added that scene with Josuke at the start. It doesn't really add anything.
I think the funniest thing in episode 11 is Koichi and Okuyasu just going through it and the Jojos not giving a shit. I hate the Joestars so much it's unreal. It did struck me as a bit weird. It's not at all weird for Jotaro (Have you seen the stardust crusaders? They told Polnareff they lied about Avdol's death to him and then they had the audacity to go "I didn't think you'd be this hurt"), It does feel a bit off for Josuke though.
Jotaro smiling as he says Jospeh could die is amazing. Of course he would.
I didn't think about what Red Hor Chili Pepper's stand user would look like but I am definitely not dissapointed in Akira. Personality wise he is insanely boring but I do like his design.
Okuyasu looking at his own hand as he thanks Koichi was a nice touch.
I like how they handled Joseph. Obviously Josuke is not gonna be amazed to see him but It wouldn't go with his personality if he was antagonistic either.
Ep 13
I don't like how different the japanese VA of Joseph sounds when he is yelling. English VA doesn't have this issue but it's also was the weakest of the sdc cast imo. No winning with this one.
Ep 14 - 15
The first episode is just set up. It does that job pretty well though. Really makes Rohan seem insane. I mean, he *is*.
Rohan relating everything to art and writing isn't even that off from how most artists think tbh. Writers will see a documentary about the most disturbing shit they have ever seen and they will go "That will make my writing about this part more accurate".
And Rohan'a advice is actually pretty good. Like, draw with references. Draw from reality. Base your characters on people who you know, instead of like, just taking from your favourite artisans. Anyways,
Rohan's stand is called the Heaven's Door. Firstly, It's a really cute stand. Secondly, this thing is busted. It'd be one thing if looking at a draft was the only way for it to work but touching you with his stand also works. And he can knock someone unconcious when unfurling them. Add on that the insane speed he has for no reason and honestly we should just be glad this guy isn't a villain. He is just weird and offputting.
I fucking love episode 15. The pay off is amazing. I love that Okuyasu and Josuke notice something small like a cut on his hand and immediately help him. I love that Rohan opens Josuke's eyes by insulting his hair. And then he just. keeps. going.
Josuke being literary so blinded by rage that he doesn't see the draft? Amazing. He absolutely destroyed that place. And threw a fucking chair at Okuyasu and Koichi. This show is pretty funny when it wants to be.
The story of his hair was really sweet. The guy helping them seems to be a student like the current day Josuke too.
Ep 16
The art style for this episode looks different from normal and I have no idea why. The style is ussually pretty consistent. You can see the gums in their teeth it's strange.
Jotaro gets a slight outfit change. I like the colors and the tilted belts. I'm not sure on the new jacket. I liked that they used the collar of his shirt to give the same vibe as his part 3 outfit insead of just giving him a jacket exactly like his old one. His new jacket is a bit dissapointing. I like dolphins. I'm not sure what they were trying to do with the triangle and the sun. Overall, I like the older one just a bit more. I would love it if he kept changing outfits like this tho.
It's something that Jotaro can't seem to seperate Star Platinum's time stop ability from Dio. Like, that's Star Platinum's power.
As funny as seeing Jotaro get his ass beat by a Twitch looking ass rat is, It's also shows what I like about stands. I know Jotaro is holding back here, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a bad machup for him. So you don't need to nerf him in ordert to create conflict. Stands are good against combatting power creep, is what I'm saying.
Love Crazy Diamond popping up out of nowhere just to look sad. Don't look at me with them big ol' eyes.
Ep. 17
I think one thing part 4 is good at is the character dynamics. Rohan and Koichi was fun to watch. Rohan grinning at Koichi getting flustered was great. Reimi being really friendly with Rohan cuz she knew him when he was a kid is a nice bit of writing.
I made a joke post about where Kak went after death, a few people mentioned how ghosts were real and he could be like Reimi. Now I know what they are talking about.
Reimi has a nice design. Especially the choker with the hands holding on it. Speaking of hands
I know I shouldn't be laughing at the guy whose only trait so far is that he kills young girls to date their hands to satisfy his stupid fetish or something but
what even is that music. Why did they make it like that.
To close this off, I am currently on vacation with little internet access. It's a rural area so there isn't much to do. I've been spending my time writing these, slowly. Gonna take a hot minute to finish this part.
I've been also wondering if I should watch Stone Ocean before Golden Wind and get the Jotaro story over with. I'll decide that later, I dunno.

⯌ Diamond Is Unbreakable Ep 1-7 Thoughts
22 July 2023
Aka I gush over Jjba's art direction the whole time.
The age of straight trousers is OVER, time for BAGGY PANTS.
From the first few scenes you can already tell this is gonna be different from Stardust Crusaders. Some obvious things are:
- The previous parts occasionally used palette changes to grab attention. Now, the palette changes for the backgrounds are permanent. You'll never see the sky be blue. Like, ever.
- The lads aren't absolute units anymore. Josuke actually looks like a high school student.
- The style is a lot less angular. Faces of the characters look softer. The shading is more colorful too.
- They got rid of the highlights almost entirely. There is a bit of a highlight on the cheeks and the hair but that's it. No highlights unless the object is shiny.
- They got rid of a lot of the hatching. Especially ones on characters' faces and hands. The faces don't have the iconic lines anymore.
- I like kördüğüm ons Chrome varmertones The color tonConversely, there is a lot more focus on the line weight now. It's not always there cuz it takes time to do, but it does show up on shots that focus on a person's face.
Overall I definitely prefer this over whatever the other parts had going on. I do miss the cheekbone line tho.
Jotaro
I love the outfit change for him. I like to change from warmer tones to cooler tones. Even the gold accents on this outfit is made a cooler yellow. I like te heart pin and the heart emblem on his hat. It's cute and it connects him to part 4. I should mention how Star Platinum also has lighter colors now too. I prefer the part 3 design for both of em but I sill love the new ones. My one grievance is that he doesn't have the bit of hair sticking out anymore. It's a good design choice, but It still sad to see it go.
He has dropped the cool guy act. Well, not "dropped" but more like it became more subdued and natural. Part 3 Jotaro barely moves unless he has to, he is also a bit quick tempered. Part 4 Jotaro is more expressive. Just in his talk with Josuke, he moves his hands around, smiles while talking about how the Joestar house is in chaos.
^ He still yells at women, though. This man has a wife. And a DAUGHTER. BY THE WAY.
I think it's funny how Jotaro says Josuke should dress normal if he doesn't wanna get bullied, as if he himself is dressed so normal. I guess he is annoyed at Josuke not reacting to the turtle bring injured at all. He doesn't know he can just fix it. Speaking of that,
Josuke
I don't really like Crazy Diamond's design. It does it's job well, i looks really aggressive but it also has hearts all around, both gentle and aggressive, like Josuke! I just don't think it has he same oomph Star Platinum does. What are the tubes on it's back supposeto be anyway? Also why does it look so much like The World? What even is happening.
The ability is pretty neat. Versatile with huge outplay potential. Great for a protag ability. Plus, It's funny seeing it causally punch holes in civilians.
Josuke... my man... that drip. He is both incredibly fashionable AND a great character design. A different take for the delinquent archetype from Jotaro, despite this, he is created with similar principles to him. He has modified his outfit with symbols and emblems, the peace symbol and the hearts are obvious. The anchor represents Morioh, as it is a coastal town. Josuke 8 pushes this further with a whole ass sailor outfit, though I can't speak on him as I have not read part 8 obviously. The uniform is open at the top, making a heart shame and showing the bright yellow underneath. He has few but striking elements. The chest and the hair. They are simple yet incredibly effective, pulling your attention to his face. I absolutely adore his design. Jjba was the thing that finally got me interested in character design, years before I actually decided to watch the thing, and this is why.
Koichi
Koichi is... really interesting. I thought it was really bold of them to have a non-stand user as a companion since, you know, they can't even see the stands, let alone fight. He does end up with a stand a few episodes in. It's for the best tbh, I don't even know how a non stand user main character would work.
I love how he is just standing there while Jotaro explains the whole family situation, and he is there like "Should I be here??". His personality is a big generic rn, but he has a lot of potential. I'm sure hr will get more interesting as time goes on. Even if he doesn't, his personality is a great fit to the group, he contrasts well with both Josuke, Okuyasu and Jotaro.
His stand is also premature, that's a fun concept! He wasn't suppose to live so It makes sense he would have an incomplete stand. It's my favourite stand design so far, if that means anything. Both looks and ability wise.
Okuyasu
^ Look at him :)
Okuyasu is gonna be my favourite from the look of things, I love that the first thing established about him is that he is dumb. Us idiots deserve representation too. Gotta love the JoBros, always trying to kill the protag when they first meet.
Character design wise, he works really well. It's not as focused as Josuke's, but it's not rrally trying to be. The money theme is a nice touch. The marks on his face (those are scars, I think?) give him a lot of character, in a similar way to Speedwagon. That combined with the asymmetrical outfit and the screaming green belts give him a rough look, and make him stand out.
The Hand is a cool stand. It's unbelievably op. Raw ass design.
Onto the stand fights:
Angelo is a good introduction, tough a bit too dark for me personally.
Nijimura brothers' motivation was not what I was expecting. Good thing Polnareff got that flesh bud removed eh?
The lock guy was also clever too. It was fun seeing Koichi turning sadistic the second he learned to use his stand.
Surface is a pretty cool stand. I love sentient stands, I wish we got more of them.
Yeah okay this is it bye lol
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 45 - FINALE Thoughts
12 July 2023
God. Fuck.
Ep. 45
This is the least insane episode of the four we have.
So, the episode starts with Polnareff and Dio. The whole sequence is just Dio toying with him. He could have killed him 100 times over. Dio's ego is actively making things harder for himself.
I love the crew bring absolutely horrified and jumping out of the window. The sun is setting so they don't have much time.
Joseph's plan of hiding till dawn makes sense to me. Polnareff and Kakyoin object though, I get why. They both have been used by Dio, Polnareff saw Advol and Iggy get murdered in front of him.
The group splits in two, though we end up mostly focusing on Kakyoin and Joseph. The chase sequence is nice. All the info they get is about the physical stand, unfortunately.
Ep. 46
Kakyoin has a plan to find out Dio's ability.
The episode starts with with a childhood flashback and yeah... I pretty much accepted he was gonna die at this point. You know how it is with jjba.
Really interesting flashback. It confirms me saying he was a lonely kid as true. He feels alone because no one can see Hierophant Green. "How can they understand me if they cant even see the real me." He thinks of his stand as a part of him from a young age. A stand is a part of one's soul. In a way, his stand is the reason why he feels so alone but also his companion. I was under the impression having a stand was something that runs in the family. I thought at least his family could understand but we never learn if that was the case (most likely not). Also, how rare is a stand anyway? 2%, 0.01%? Makes you think.
Our crew were people with stands, I imagine this was the first time he could connect with people.
Kakyoin's plan is to make Hierophant invisible, surround the area with tendrils to hopefully detect Dio's stand. It goes so horribly wrong.
This entire section is me talking about Kakyoin's death and it's so long. just skip it if you don't wanna hear all that. I had fun puking my thoughts straight into paper (keyboard?? Screen?) tho.
There is heroic and everything and then in a split second Kakyoin crashes to a water dam nearby with half of his stomach gone. Not showing the World at first was a great choice imo. Just shows how horrifying this stand is to our characters.
This scene is fucking heartbreaking. He has pretty much accepted he was gonna die, thinking about his family. He uses his last breath to help the Joestars. Despite being a crybaby, I don't cry watching tv shows all that much. This one got me tho, I'm getting really sad just writing.
When you kill of a character you destroy any potential plots and writing you can have with them in the future for one single gut punch (sorry). When you are writing it's measuring a characters potential vs the impact of their death.
I can't say if he would fit well into later parts because I haven't watched them yet. What I can say is, Kakyoin got what he wanted, friends. He is still not mature yet, he is 17 for fucks sake, but him finding friends for once and not feeling lonely anymore was his main storyline.
I can understand why he was killed. I do this was a good choice for his character, compared to making him an minor side character for the later parts. His death is done really well. Only thing I would change is the music. It's a bit corny imo.
And you can't deny his death wasn't in vain. There was no way in hell's chance Jotaro would have beaten Dio otherwise. He plays a huge part in Dio's demise. They could have gone for a a vain death, Kakyoin is the closest we have to an heroic archetype. They could have gone for a tragic death instead because of this. I'm glad they didn't. It's not like unfair deaths couldn't be done well (They could be even better than the standard sacrifice when done well), it's just that I'm tired of seeing heroic characters die unfairly all the time nowadays.
I personally am a big fan characters who had their character arc already be a part of later parts as a supporting character. Either having a different storyline or being a source of stability. I was hoping Kak would have that instead but Jotaro fills that quota better than he does. You could have both as a duo if you felt like it though.
All of this is also why I didn't like Advol's death all that much. At least that's why I think I don't like it. I like Advol almost as much as Kakyoin but his death left me frustrated more than anything. His character was underutilized here, so killing him off seems bizarre to me. He still has a lot of potential.
His death is done so much worse too. No time to grieve, no one outside of Polnareff mentions him. He dies really early into the episode too. We don't even get to hear his thoughts like we do with Kak. He just sacrifices himself for Polnareff, again. That's not a great send off for a character. Polnareff being saved by others was established multiple times. Literary every Crusader has saved him at some point. Iggy sacrifices himself for him later too. So, I have to ask, what's the point of killing Advol then 💀?? I don't understand and I would love to read people's opinions on this when I get the chance.
Okay death talk over.
Oh yeah, there was the rest of the episode.
Joseph also fucking dies but not really. Before he dies he reminds us hamon exists for a second. Makes sure to tell Jotaro Kakyoin's find.
I would like to point out how Dio kills the cat for shits and giggles. This is such a huge contrast to Kars that it's cracking me up.
Love that Jotaro gets more and more pissed off every time Dio spurts out someone's name.
The episode ends with the meme. I thought the meme would hamper my enjoyment but the Jotaro vs Dio is just kinda silly like that. I found it pretty funny personally. Not sure if that was the intended vibe.
Ep. 47
Dio opening?? Di o opneing? das so cooll
I've been replaying the za warudo sound effect for an hour now someone help me
Here comes the big plot twist, Dio and Jotaro have the SAME STAND. I love this reveal, I'll be honest. My one complaint would be that it could have been better if it was lightly hinted before. Otherwise though, I love it when characters realize their actual power. I also love characters with time powers and I already like Jotaro a lot, I fully support this.
It was so satisfying seeing Jotaro trick Dio and punch thru his stomach. Get karma'd shithead.
Oh, Polnareff. I forgot he was here.
I love the shot of Dio just zapping to Jotaro when he sees him move. Some looney toon ass bit.
Using Star Platinum to stop his own heartbeat was definitely one of the boldest things he has done.
Zero context gif
And then. And then just as he was about to die he sucks away Joseph's blood to revive himself. And that gives him a just awful hairdo.
I have no idea what they were going for with this. He is so ugly holy shit. Kill him with fire.
Ep. 48
It's mostly the same stuff as episode 47. The steamroller was pretty funny.
"You've done one mistake, Dio. You pissed me off." Who thought of this line it's awful.
Joseph gets revived wit Dio's blood. I live how Jotaro was basically saying how painful this journey was and that he could at least get one thing positive.
I'll be honest if my grampa did this to me I would have straight up killed him again.
Holly is fine and well. The Joestars and Polnareff part ways. Poor Polnareff tho, he was the closest to both Advol and Kakyoin.
The part 3 ends.
------------
We still not done!! There is still the OVA. It differs a lot from both the manga and the anime in a lot of ways so I thought it deserved it's own section.
OVA 11
They merged the coffin scene and Advol's death together. So instead of some goon Dio kills Advol. I like this better compared to the anime/manga but not by much.
Aaaah poor Iggy.
They don't bother with Vanilla Ice being a vampire, which I like.
Instead of having the whole group chat on the roof they get naturally separated instead. Jotaro and Joseph come across Dio. When Joseph tells Jotaro to run away he answers "You want me to run away now?" echoing Polnareff and Kakyoin's statements in the anime.
And then Dio throws Jotaro off the building with The World. As much as I like the sound design of the anime, I actually love how they didn't add any sound to his stand here.
Joseph gets saved from death by Kakyoin. He uses one of the tendrils to save Joseph and then uses emerald splash to make the dome of the building crash on Dio. It's actually a pretty cool sequence just watch it.
So that's how the gang gets separated. I like it more than the anime if I'm being honest.
OVA 12
This is the episode most faithful to the manga of the three.
The comments tell me Satoshi Kon was one of the directors in this. I am too lazy to confirm but it does have a similar style to his works. I'm really glad for that honestly. I've always loved Satoshi Kon.
I like the detail of Kakyoin saying maybe his power was teleporting, and Joseph telling him not to draw conclusions.
Emerald splash is a lot more intimidating in the OVA. I'm not sure which one I prefer. I do like the sound design of it in the anime.
In the OVA, Dio doesn't attack him right away. Dio says he shouldn't hasten his death, and that he is talented and just join him instead. Anime Dio doesn't bother with all that. He is just like "You wanna see The World do bad?? There you fucking go fool." and then kills him. While I do like what Kak says to Dio, I like the anime version of this wayy more.
OVA 13
I could go on about all the differences and what I like but just watch it tbh. They throw around cars and towers it's amazing.
I love the art style of the OVA just as much as the manga/anime. It's voice acting and soundtrack are not the best. The animation has some issues but it's fun. Also free to watch on Youtube.
ANNND We are done. This was a wild ride. I'm glad I watched it though. I can't wait to watch part 4.
I probably won't write as much for part 4 because it takes a long time. Maybe go 8 episode per post. I haven't figured it out yet. I might not even journal anything for it depending on how things go.
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 40-44 Thoughts
12 July 2023
I've waited a bit to write this. Mostly because I was tired, but also because I wanted to think about it more.
D'Arby Part (Ep. 40-43)
This episode is considerably lighter in tone compared to the Vanilla Ice episodes, cuz we gotta torture Polnareff as much as possible.
I like the paralells between the D'Arby's. Older one is unmatched in cheating, Joseph tries to cheat and gets his soul taken to show there is no way we are winning that way. Jotaro wins by bluffing instead. Younger one is unmatched in skill, Kakyoin tries to win against him fair and square and gets his soul taken away. Jotaro wins cheating instead.
This episode does a lot to build Kakyoin's character. Interesting that the way DIO tempts him is by saying "Let's be friends." I am guessing Kakyoin had a lonely childhood. Maybe he spent all that time palying games. It's not like I was a friendless kid who spent all her time playing Tetris, Pokemon and MOBAs.
I didn't saw this scene in the manga though. It's probably an anime only thing. I like it as an addition, though, I doubt some really shady man saying let's be friends would calm anyone's nerves down. It doesn't make much sense to me.
Also the Kakyoin doll is horrifying.
Joseph saying "No more Mr Nice Guy" got me. Couldn't think of a more white phrase if I tried.
Why,, why do the baseball players have an entire bakery down there.
Jotaro part dragged on a little bit for me personally. It was funny though. Like how Joseph gets angry at Jotaro for playing like shit and Jotaro is saying 'Shouldn't you be cheering for me?'. Later Jotaro is hiding behind his hat. And even later there are the soul reading scenes.
It's so funny seeing D'Arby lose his shit over Jotaro cheating like a TRUE GAMER. I can't believe DIO has a GAMER guard his hideout. D'Arby in general is pretty funny like why does he look like that. Why is his stand like that. What a fucking loser.
Episodes are good but not outstanding.
Vanilla Ice (Ep. 43-45)
The last few episodes were funny, this one is just horrifying.
I will maybe come back to this on a latee post. I wanna think more about these episodes.
Firstly, I actually know Vanilla Ice's namesake. Naming your character after one person instead of a badn or a song name is... bold.
Funny that Dio only remembers Kakyoin at first. He might be pretending to not know the Crusaders that well just to show his superiority or whatever. Motherfucker is reading while Polnareff and Iggy are out there fighting for their lives. I hope Dio dies a million deaths and gets run over.
I kind of hate Advol's death. He doesn't get a send off at all. It just sorta happens before the fight. We don't get to hear his thoughts, we don't get a chance to grieve. It feels weird to me that Iggy's death resonated with me way more, I like Advol so much more too. I get the feeling that he was killed just for the sake of it. His character arc doesn't really need this. I dunno. It felt like a waste. I was angry when he died, not really sad.
I think this part if the opening is suppose to reference this scene. I wonder if this is true for the other shots.
The fight scenes are pretty good. One thing I don't get is how getting some of his foot eaten completely incapacitates him. That would make sense irl but like. He has literary been through worse. This show doesn't really handle injuries all that well.
Silver chariot was animated beautifully.
I actually felt sad over Iggy's death. Since stands represent souls, the fool manifested on its own to save Polnareff. Despite Iggy knowing he would die if he did that.
You'd think Polnareff's arc of being saved would lead him to save someone else instead. But the show almost makes fun of you for thinking that. I kind of like that, actually.
I thought Suzie meeting Holly was a nice scene but it dragged for too long.
The end part really confused me. The tonal whiplash from Iggy dying to this just doesn't sit right me. There are other comedic bits too and none of them land for me. I think they are theree to lighten the mood but like. People are dying, y'know. I wouldn't mind this as much if the jokes were funny but I couldn't really find them funny.
Yeah, that's it. I couldn't think of what I wanted to write, but I though it would be better to write this before watching the finale. I should let them marinate in my head a bit more.
Now, we are at the beginning of the end. With only 4 episodes left. I will watch them after posting this and report to you later. It's currently 5.30
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 34-39 Thoughts
11 July 2023
Ep. 34-35 (D'Arby)
These episodes were pretty solid! Good setup and pay-offs.
The opening scene is so funny to me, they are all synced... wow
D'Arby is entertaining, his Japanese VA really does a lot ot he work, despite the dodgy English. I'd say his stand ability is a bit too obvious, taking people's soulds by gambling. I feel like something more interesting could have been done but it's fine as is, the stand's design makes up for it.
Also, this episode implies people in JJBA have souls? I'm saying implied because it's a real possibility that those are not actual souls, just a part of stands ability.
I love how fucking pissed Advol is this episode. I can't blame him.
I initially thought this was gonna be a Joseph episode since he is a natural gambler. I did like the direction they took. It's showing us that even someone like Joseph can't out cheat D'arby, getting rid of that as an option.
It's a bit weird that Joseph doesn't use hamon to keep the drink from spilling. Hamon would make too much noise, I guess?
The confortation between D'Arby and Jotaro was the best part, I think. It's entirely non-combat but the show utilizes a lot of the tactics it uses for fight scenes. With the lines and the colors and the music.
Jotaro is secretly the funniest character in part 3 and nothing will change my mind. He has Star Platinum bring him a drink and light his cig while betting his and his friends' souls. He could have done all these thing without being so extra about it.
D'Arby fucked up by letting Jotaro bet people's souls with a contract. I sure he thought there is no way he would go for it. He doesn't even flinch when betting Kakyoin's soul which is so funny to me. If the group is going down I'm taking him with us too. He doesn't get a pass just because he is away in the hospital.
Then he bets his own mother's soul. I was sort of expecting that to happen since if he dies, Holly will die too anyway.
I think he should have bet Iggy's soul too while D'Arby was panicking just to get the point across lol
Yeah these episodes were fun. The mechanics around the contracts gets a bit confusing if you think about it but who cares.
Ep. 36-37
I did say before that I would kill to see Hol Horse and DIO interact and guess what?? It was so worth it. I liked this way more than the DIO scenes before.
Otherwise? I struggle to find anything to talk about. I feel like this was just here just because of the set up from earlier, in the Justice episode. It would be worse if they never acknowledged Hol Horse at all.
My question is that, Is the scene with DIO earlier the reason Hol Horse's watch is wrong? I already know DIO's power is stopping time cuz everyone who has heard of JoJo knows. Let's be real. It doesn't make that much sense when I think about it but I assumed that was what they intended while watching.
Ep. 38-39 (Pet Shop)
I was really mixed on it initially but I think I like it a lot now. A fight scene between a superpowered bird and a dog have no right to be this well done.
The most notable thing I don't like about it is a personal preference. I don't like when animals in a show are anthropomorphized. Because part of the fun of an animal companion is that they don't think like us. The most amount of it I don't mind is Missile from Ghost Trick, as an example. Even the way he is drawn now anthropomorphizes him.
I did love the fight scenes. I love that whenever Iggy thinks he has escaped he gets found again.
The shows stops in it's tracks sometimes to tell us how COOL and FEROCIOUS hawks are, just really hyping up Pet Shop.
Speaking of Pet Shop, I really like him. I've found the Engrish names in JJBA charming, It gives a completely different vibe to those who know English compared to Japanese people who do not. It's not intended but it is either really funny or really bold. Pet Shop's name shows that well.
His design is strangely cute. Intimidating but also cute :) It's funny to think how DIO recruited him. Did DIO gave that outfit to him??
When Iggy started having flashbacks I thought "Holy shit is he gonna actually die??" You know how jjba is, if we learn a character's backstory it means death for them. The show knows this. It waits for the last possible second to save him, to make you think he was gonna die for real.
It was really sad seeing Iggy struggle to walk. I said I don't like tiny dogs but what I dislike even more is how much jjba loves torturing dogs.
So, Kakyoin is back. With sick shades too. I don't know why he has them, maybe his eyes are sensitive to light after treatment? They are a bit extra, sure, but they also fit his character really well for some reason. I appreciate this costume change and that he has scars left from the incident.
I love that everyone rushes towards him, sort of hugging and and then Jotaro is just like 😐. I know he is emo but he could at least pretend to be a bit more excited.
The translator of the manga I was reading even left a little note on top going "MY BRO MY BRO IS BACK".
They have found DIO's hideout so... we are reaching the end. I am excited but also a little bit scared.
People wouldn't be praising this part ao much if it had a horrible ending, so I'm not really worried about it being bad, at least.
Praying for my lads to make it out alive lol
- I will try to watch the last 9 episodes as soon as possible.
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 30-33 Thoughts
9 July 2023
Iggy goes to do fuck all while the rest of the crew splits in two.
Before I actually talk about the episodes, I wanna briefly give my opinion on the OVA. I haven't watched past part 10 obviously but I think it's important I'll mention it in a later post.
I vastly prefer 2010 anime over the OVA. The production value of the anime is just way higher. The dark tone of the OVA doesn't fit JJBA tbh.
BUT. I actually kinda love them? They have their charm. The darker alternative take is fun, if it was the only animated JJBA option I wouldn't be satisfied with it but as an alternative it's nice. Polnareff and Kakyoin's expressions in the N'Doul episodes are just so funny.
^ Joseph and Kakyoin's reaction to Iggy just. destroyed me
There is a thing or two it does better than the current anime and the manga I think. I really like Kakyoin's portrayal in some of the episodes. There is awkwardness to his mannerisms that you would expect from a teenager, that is not present in the anime OR the manga. His build is also a lot more closer to your average teenager too. That being said, OVA Jotaro runs in the opposite direction by looking 40 in some of the episodes. I don't wanna talk about that tho since everyone has talked about it death.
Also the long haired Star Platinum is pretty sick ngl. Looks even more like Bruford.
Ep. 30-31 (Mariah)
Oohh boy. I don't do well with second hand embarrasment. There are a lot of embarrasing moments in part 2 and 3 but these two episodes are filled to the brim with them. From the walking stairs to entering ladies restrooms to the y'know what. Managed to push thru tho!!
I've noticed a trend with the second half of SC of putting more attention the the stand users. With more iconic designs an all. I wouldn't call Mariah's design original, it just gets the job done (The job being looking conventionally hot).
Advol being really proud about digging a hole to avoid the train is kind of endearing :)
I thought the back and forth between Mariah and Joseph at the end was nice. Joseph's va was especially good in it (R.I.P. Unshō Ishizuka). Mariah saying she'd be down to be with him despite their ages being far apart is really funny considering Dio is tecnically 130+ years old.
Mariah's motivation is a bit of a downgrade compared to N'Doul before her. I mean, being down bad was only part of the reason why he was following Dio, c'mon.
Yeah I don't wanna talk more about this episode. Sorry to all (both) people reading this for reminding you about Ep 31.
Ep. 32-33 (Alessi)
Look at baby Chariot. No don't look away,, you will look at him and you will appreciate him.
Let's also take a moment to appreciate Set not being given to any other person, because the only thing keeping Pol and Jotaro from dying is Alessi being one of the stupidest mfers in the show.
I bet everyone has mentioned this before but I don't care, this was such a good opportunity to bring back part 2 Joseph that it hurts. If you are can do all that fanservice the episode before you can certainly do a part 2 Joseph cameo. I can't complain too much, I do love these episodes as is.
^ Tiny man omg. So tiny and brave...
I would say Jotaro not recognizing the earings and the clothes of kid Polnareff is stupid but he thought Joseph's story was bs while having an evil spirit following him, like, in the first episode. So. Not out of character really.
I like the detail of Kid Chariot being more like a sentient companion since kid Polnareff is not fully attuned to his stand yet. It even reaches for Pol when he is drowning :(
If I had a nickel every time Jotaro casually walked into Polnareff dealing with one of Dio's goons without fully knowing what's going on, then beating the shit out of the goon; I'd have two nickels. It isn't a lot but it's pretty funny that it happened twice.
Kid Jotaro kicking ass and then rolling up his sleeve just so he can point and say a cool one liner is killing me. Jotaro is secretly the funniest character in the show.
^ Link
You can tell Chariot's sadistically smiling under that mask. Amazing.
I love that story goes out of it's way to tell us Alessi is 38 and single.
And the episode ends basically the same way as ep 1.
Overall, I do like these episodes a lot. It's silly and fanservicey in a completely different way from the last episodes. The "your favourite glup shitto has a cameo in the new movie" kind. Seeing baby versions of our favourite characters is something most of us would like. I'm over here not shutting up about baby Chariot. It's like baby yoda. Clearly it worked on me.
Jotaro and Polnareff's interactions this episode really helped to show their friendship. It's hard to remember that fact sometimes with how Jotaro especially is but they really do care about eachother.
I wanna do 34-39 next, then 40-44, lastly 45-48. Seems like the most logical way of going about it.
I know in my heart that the confrontation with Dio is NOT gonna go well. No one has died yet and considering JJBA's track record, yeah, I don't think they'll all make it alive. I did say Kakyoin was my favourite early on but I do love all of them, it's gonna hurt real bad no matter what.
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 25-29 Thoughts
7 July 2023
Aka I ramble on about the N'Doul episodes and some manga differences.
Ep 25 is the start of the second half of SDC. I have been a bit slow so far so I've decided to pick up speed. It's gonna take me 2 months to finish the anime otherwise. I've watched episodes 25 to 33 but I have some extra things to say today, I'm gonna split the post in two.
First of all, the opening. It starts off all mysteries but then the rest of the song is like the first one. It even has Star Platinum's ORA ORA's in it. My favourite part is the start and the sequence with the white lines in it.
Ep. 25-26 (N'Doul)
There is a dog. The dog has a stand, The Fool. To be fair, he is a really anthropomorphized dog, way smarter than the actual thing. They kind of have to do this if he is gonna be part of the team with a stand and all. (Jotaro smiling while Iggy is biting Polnareff's face off was pretty funny. Mr. Emotionless over here thinks this is hilarious.)
It's honestly a crime that N'doul shows up for only two episodes. His design, abilities and personality is sick as hell to me. My fave DIO goon, maybe? Most of the time stands are way more interesting then the goon using 'em. Basic bitch pick, I know. Sometimes things are popular for a reason.
^ Kakyoin being a piece of shit here was pretty funny. They were arguing so much that N'Doul could sense them. Good work guys.
Episode goes from 1 to 11 real quick when N'Doul slashes Kakyoin's eyes. And he passes out from the shock. Kakyoin getting hurt to show how dangerous the new threat happens a lot, but it seems actually serious this time. I don't think Araki is bold enough to make him lose his eyes for real, but It'd be really interesting development if he did. I'm just saying.
Advol says "No, that's wrong" He says the thing! Guys!!! He also gets his neck cut too ig lol. I'm sure he'll be fine.
Jotaro uses the secret Joestar technique of running the fuck away (to divert attention away from the people he cares about). Classic. He makes sure to grab Iggy on the way.
^ Jokes aside, I thought Jotaro throwing Iggy to not get hit by Geb was really smart. It makes so much sense but I couldn't think of it at all.
I know Iggy is just a dog, he didn't ask for this yada yada I don't care, if the bastard didn't wanna get thrown at 20 mph he shouldn't look so goddamn puntable. Every time I look at him I am filled with rage. I want to kick him like football.
Okay but for real, Iggy is gonna be a hard sell for me. I don't like small dogs but I dislike fart jokes even more, which he unfortunately delivers in spades. I know part 3 has a lot of piss shit and fart jokes in it but Iggy isn't helping!!
Okay the stand-off between Jotaro and N'Doul was excellent. The animation, the soundtrack and the sound design worked really well. And then Star Platinum going HUUUUAAAHHHH
If you didn't think Dio wasn't building a cult before, you'll surely do now. Even Jotaro comments on it. Cults give people a purpose and answers, so...
I do feel a lil bit bad for him. Dio finds the most isolated and depressed people to use them, letting them depend on him. As much as I've been trying to avoid them I get recommended jojos when I search for clips. N'Doul's line "I do not fear death. Just as long as [Dio] doesn't abandon and murder me himself." in one of the games puts it plainly.
It's hard to wrap your head around Dio being charismatic but when you hear his interactions with them it becomes obvious. He acts like he cares for them, whether that's genuine or on is up in the air. Considering everything in Phantom Blood, how much it took for Dio to finally respect Jonathan, I'm inclined to say no? He was definitely meant to be a pure evil Disney villain type of character there. SDC might shake things up, who knows.
Overall, these episodes are great. They have a lil bit of everything I like. Part 1 doesn't feel boring compared to part 2, unlike some other two parters. Not to mention the music picks.
-
Now, onto something I wanna talk about. I was sort of going thru the manga pages for the last few episodes and,
This line of Jotaro is given to Advol in the anime. And he is less stressed about it. (I know characters get major injuries only to be fine the next episode but like, Kakyoin losing his eyes is a big development. He doesn't show for the next 13 episodes after this.)
^ Too tired to change the lines.
Also, in the anime, It is Advol who holds Kakyoin. (Polnareff holding Joseph isn't in either.) Instead, Jotaro hangs with one hand while the other is casually in his pocket. Which is absolutely hilarious. And shows how anime and manga to treats his character.
- I know people arguing over manga and anime Jotaro is -a whole thing- I would hear stuff about it while Stone Ocean anime was still releasing. I will think about this a lot more if I actually read the whole thing. Just talking about these two episodes here.
In the anime, Jotaro needs to look cool all the time always. I assume what they were going for was to make him more stoic so that when his cool guy persona (and it is a persona) starts slipping it has more impact. But the changes made seem kind of random. They changed some stuff in this episode but they have kept the Anubis one largely the same. He is not as agitated there but he is still on the back foot.
He is losing control in this episode. The only reason they made it out alive was because The Fool just happened to be able to fly, he was basically fucked before then. Him looking panicked at Kakyoin losing his eyes also makes sense. He can't do anything about the situation, so naturally, his stoic demeanor starts to dissipate for a while. Kakyoin and Advol has put him on a timer.
I don't think the difference between manga and anime Jotaro is that big but it is notable. I dunno. I would prefer Jotaro breaking the cool mask too much rather than basically never.
Another tidbit is, Star Platinum smiles in the manga way more. And I'm gonna be honest I prefer the anime in this. It goes back to the "Having it less makes the times where it does show up more impactful." thing. So, it can definitely be done in a good way.
Ep. 27 (Oingo Boingo Brothers)
One thing I found strange is how the English dub and sub treats the brothers' names. They normally call themselves.Oingo Boingo Brothers. The English sub calls them Zenyatta Monetta Brothers. The dub straight up doesn't mention their name at all.
Weirdly enough, the the other subs do call them Oingo Boingo Brothers. Is it a cultural thing, or a copyright one? I don't know.
I don't have much to say about this episode. So I'm gonna take the opportunity to talk about Kakyoin instead :D
^ This is from the next episode but there isn't much I can use.
I mentioned before how I thought it would be interesting to blind him. You never see legally blind characters in action stuff, unless they have an ability that let's them sense the environment. Like Toph or N'Doul himself. It's a pain to fight blind, it turns out.
Kakyoin should have a way to see, through the humanoid stand Green Heirophant (unless him being blinded makes Heirophant blind also). Like, It would have been really draining. Summoning the stand is a lot but also the chronic pain from his injury, but he could do it. He could use the eyes for battle situations, or Joseph could have SPW bring him technology that could help him in some way. I'm not gonna call this a missed opportunity, I can see why didn't go with that.
I'm guessing Araki wanted to shrink the cast for a while, like with Advol's "death". 5 man band casts are nice but it can be hard to work with 5 people all the time. Cast is divided again with Polnareff-Jotaro and Advol-Joseph. I went in to check when Kakyoin shows up again (grazing thru the manga) and he is not in the show for 13 episodes, excluding 2 scenes. That's more than quarter of the whole runtime. Advol was away for 9 episodes, and he was suppose to be dead.
I'm a bit conflicted on this, shrinking the cast builds relationships between the characters more in depth and it allows for new and interesting storylines. But at the same time, that's a lot of episodes. I just really like both Advol and Kakyoin, man.
Ep. 28-29 (Anubis)
FINALLY Some swordfighting scenes.
Polnareff goes off on his own, again. He comes across a stand user and gets almost killed, again. Yet he keeps going off on his own anyway. Never change king.
Anubis' shtick is that it's a stand with no user, that gets more powerful the more you fight it. It's like Nasus but way cooler. Not that that's a high bar to pass, anything is cooler than farming stacks for 20 minutes. I don't know where Anubis getting stronger with time comes from, since Nasus also has this It's probably part of the mythology. I know absolutely nothing about that though.
Anubis themselves is also a fun villain. Funny man with funny voice. Their design is the opposite of unique but it works for me. I like that him possessing the kid gives him lipstick.
Going back to Polnareff, I think people forget how powerful he is sometimes. When it comes to power and speed, only one stronger than Chariot in the group is Star Platinum. And Star Platinum is op as hell.
Jotaro vs Anubis drives that point even further, Jotaro is not even sure he can win against Polnareff with Anubis' speed added to the equation. The whole fight is just Jotaro sweating bullets thinking "Shit shit shit shit sh
When he does finally win, he says "What were you saying? You were gonna tear me into shreds?" while Star Platinum puts his hand like this. Just. I love it.
^ Compilation of Jotaro faces for this episode.
Overall, Anubis episodes were pretty nice. I think the Alessi epsiodes do a better job building Jotaro and Polnareff's dynamic though.
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 21-24 Thoughts
5 July 2023
I was gonna watch Ep. 25-26 before this but I wanted to make a clean split between the two parts. I peeped into ep 25 a lil bit and it has a new OP and everything. So it will have to wait for now.
Ep. 21-22
Absolute batshit insane two parter. I was gonna write Advol being alive in my predictions because surely if he was the crew would have more of a reaction? Well, I look like an even bigger fool now. How dare the narrative hide shit from me.
It will never not be funny how every 5 episodes or so we'll get an episode that's just Polnareff torture hour. Araki loves putting him in situations.
So... Fun fact! The stand Judgement is translated as "Mahşer" in the Turkish sub, which means bringing all the sould in one place in preperation for Judgement. I can't blame them for this, when translated directly it just doesn't sound nice to the ear. Finding an İslam equivalent is difficult too since there is a thousand fucking words to describe basically the same concept. I went to research for a bit and I couldn't find a concrete translation for it.
The stand itself is a fine interpetation of the Judgement card, I suppose. Rubbing a gold lamp for a genie trope is so overdone, it's abilities are cookie cutter. The design is nice, at least. I don't mind this that much, the episode is barely about it.
The whole time Polnareff is talking to Judgement you are just begging for him to not fall to it's trap. I like how they wrote this sequence. It made me feel upset but not infuriated, which is a common thing that happens in scenes like this. It's in character and it doesn't drag out for long.
Polnareff just accepting his death was actually hearbreaking. Poor guy.
Fortunately, he gets to live another day thanks to Advol BABY!!! You can just tell he was having fun. It must be nice getting to see Polnareff again. It's in ghe middle of a battle but, that's just how it be.
Guys, they put a fucking rainbow in there guys, look, gu-
Yeah this scene was the funniest part of the show so far. While watching I was like "They should piss in there lol" and then they actually did it. Advol was the one that said it too. "The nature is calling" I can't believe this.
And now we get to the part I honestly kind of hate. It turns out rest of the gang knew, all this time. The whole time they met "Advol's father" they were just acting.
They have absolutely zero reason for doing this, like, even Jotaro was acting there. They could have told him when they landed on the island. The whole thing is just so unecessarily mean that it feels out of character. Joseph even says "Calm down, there is no reason to cry" and look. I get Joseph being that inept and Jotaro not giving a shit but Advol? Kakyoin?? The whole thing is written as a joke so it never comes up again.
The first part feels as though it was written as if they didn't know. They don't slip up at all and their reactions seem geniune. It soured both of the episodes for me to be honest. At least Polnareff's VA's were amazing this ep.
Ep. 23-24
I like these episodes. They didn't blew me away or anything but it was good. It's especially good for some simple characterization imo.
The gang is planning to use a submarine to go to Egypt and we already know it's not gonna go well. If this keeps happening every other episode SPW foundation might stop paying for these. I wouldn't blame them.
We finally get to see Suzie Q again, as indecisive as ever (me too girl). They called her effervecent and all I could think of was that stupid twilight post.
Personally, I think Suzie Q deserves to know about the Holly situation but at the same time Holly doesn't want that. I get where she is coming from but it might be the last time you see your mother. The charity even she is going to is sponsored by Smokey, in case you forgot this was a continuation of part 2. I know I sometimes forget.
^ I went in to check the manga just to see the artwork and wow it looks nice. Huge improvement compared to Phantom Blood. Makes me want to read the manga. I do love me some ink art.
I got a bit dissapointed when I realized this wasn't gonna be a closed space mystery kind of situation. I have a soft spot for that kind of stuff.
Our next stand is this... thing. Whatever the fuck this thing is takes the cake for the most insufferable stand. I have very limited knowledge on tarot, I can't see how her abilites connect to the card. She can transform and blend into minerals. It's not the most unique ability.
Not much else of note outside of a few Jotaro scenes, they show his personality well. He stands in front of the phoen for like a minute before givong the most obvious answer. He waits to be alone with the stand just so he can tell her he is gonna be the one to beat the daylights out of her. He sure is. a guy.
The second part is more interesting in my opinion. Look at this scene:
I watched this 50 times. Kakyoin popping up behind him out of nowhere. The fact that they do a 5 second bro shake perfectly. Their eyes going dark like this is the most serious they have ever been in their lives.
I love how the manga did this scene.
The second part has the gang working together. Silver chariot duels the stand to buy time. Heirorphant green holds the crew in place so they don't get hurt. Hermit purple pulls out the Priestess from Polnareff's throat etc etc.
Jotaro going along with Polnareff's plan for him to hit on her was pretty funny. They overdo it though, ending up in a way worse situation.
I like that Jotaro waits to "get crushed" by the teeth before breaking it so he can make it more dramatic. Kakyoin calls him a show off and he is 100% right.
I know some people hate it but I adore how Jotaro's way to solve problems is to just punch harder. Exceptional. Makes Kakyoin's line "She even outsmarted Jotaro." an episode before even funnier.
I am sleepy so I'm gonna edit in stuff later. Super excited for Egypt.
I think Polnareff creeps up on my favourite part 3 character spot more each day.
I have zero idea what's gonna happen next episode so no predictions. Sorry.

Ep. 16 and 17
This one's a two parter. I didn't talk about the portrayal of the countries visited because I don't have much of an opinion on them. I'm not from from those places. I am middle eastern tho so I wanted to talk about some stuff here.
So, Fun fact! Döner and Kebab are two different foods. It's just that joints that sell one usually sell the other. The food is named Döner (Dön meaning spin, -er being the present simple tense or same suffix in English. Meaning It spins OR spinner.) When it spread to Europe and rest of the middle east it got the name "Doner Kebab". I just thought that was cool.
Bargaining bit is pretty funny. Joseph's advice isn't half bad. I've never seen people bargain or overcharge for street food but It's pretty much expected in bazaars. You gotta learn how to do it if you are a tourist because it's expected also you WILL get scammed at some point.
OKAY, now onto the actual episode. The lovers card is not only for romantic/sexual relationships. It encapsulates all relationships and connections. Dan's stand "connects" his target to himself. I thought the lovers would be two people with matching stands or something. This is a fun take on the card though, omitting the romantic/sexual context altogether.
Wow Jotaro is mad. I don't think we have seen him being this brash before. I think it's funny how Polnareff mutters "He just might" when Kakyoin is says "Are you trying to kill your grandfather?!". He never would, but it's funny that Polnareff thinks he would consider it. (The music for this scene slaps btw. if you even care)
This is a nice bit of characterization of Jotaro. He does most of the things Dan says, while also trying to explode him with his mind. The whole time you're watching you're like "Dan's ass will be absolutely destroyed next episode lol"
Stands being able to shrink like that makes sense, Green Hierophant could do it. Not to this extent but still. Having a battle in Joseph's brain is a fun idea either way.
I think Jotaro writing Dan's bs in his notebook was to help him calm his nerves a bit.
I can't believe the jewelers started beating in him up with a bad, telling him to go back to his country and shit. Made worse by the fact that Jotaro is like, 17. I know he doesn't look like it but the characters seem to be aware of it. They call him "that asian kid".
Ep. 18
^ This is probably the most expressive Star Platinum has ben so far.
I have no idea what the fuck is. going on with this episode.
So the first half is really boring. I'd make fun of Jotaro for wearing a black coat in a desert but it's better than not wearing it at all.
I actually thought something bad happened to Kakyoin but no he is fine.
At the end of the episode Joseph was like "Is that it? The end of the episode?" Jotaro just answers "Yeah shut the fuck up old man"
^ They are so normal
Ep. 19-20
I did guess there was gonna be a Kakyoin episode my last post. Well, we get two. I'm not complaining, he is shaping up to be my favourite.
Kakyoin's first instinct when he sees the dog is to pet it, which is the correct response btw. The dog dies in 2 minutes because Araki has something against dogs.
Our stand for today is Death 13! It's a better name than just Death tbh, Death is something you'd call the main villain's stand. It's really strong, like, TOO strong. The crew basically stumbles into victory this time. If the other stands are as strong as this one, they might be in trouble. Making the stand user of death, new beginnings and change a baby was a smart move.
I love that Polnareff sees Kakyoin wake up screaming, hears him say he had a horrible dream and the first.thimg he does is tell him to spill the tea.
I initially thought the Polnareff in the dreamworld was fake. There is no way he is that stupid. Turns out he is that stupid, actually.
Y'know, after the third one you'd think Joseph would get rid of planes as an option. But no
This episode doesn't fall to the same pitfall of being infuriating like other's similar to it. You can see why the crew doesn't trust him. If I saw my friend with letters cut into his arm saying a BABY was a stand user my first thought wouldn't be "Oh, I see. We should kill thr baby then."
It is undeniably funny that the people who thought someone having dusty windows in the middle of the desert made them a stand user didn't think anything of Kakyoin's sudden change. I can't balme them tho. A baby stand user feels like a stretch at best.
Polnareff thinking about apologizing to Kakyoin while he is about to die is strangely wholesome. Their friendship is my favourite part of the show, personally.
Kakyoin is the only one to remember the whole thing. He is so energized by the rush of victory that he makes everyone breakfast. Also makes the baby eat his own shit. He was so wild for this
I'm fighting tooth and nail to get these screencaps from Youtube just.to make this a bit more readable. Typing "jjba death..." on the search bar was like entering a mine field.
Anyways, I wanna make some predictions for my future self to laugh at later. Polnareff is gonna be the first to die, assuming he dies, which I think he will.

Ep. 9
It's a bit boring tbh. It's a Jotaro episode, and I'm gonna be honest, I don't think Jotaro can carry an episode by himself. He's fun when he is with the rest of the cast, but kind of boring otherwise? I don't really hate him or anything. I just wish a bit more out of his solo episodes
Yeah, there is also the Cherry thing. The end of the episode got me
Rest under the cut
Ep. 10
Finally some good fucking conflict baby!! This is when Polnareff became a vivid character in my mind. Polnareff trying to fight the Hanged Man alone and Advol being the most upset by it the most makes sense for them. I guess Advol feels a bit betrayed because he has a lot of respect for the guy.
Polnareff gives a flimsy reason why him going alone is a good thing but you can tell later that he knows this is objectively the worse choice deep down, he is just too angry to care. Everyone knows this. Advol is the only one who thinks he can force him to not go (which does speak to his "holier than thou" additude a bit).
Later when Polnareff's arrogance bites him in the ass it's Advol who comes in to help him first. Polnareff saying this was to lecture him or prove him wrong is not entirely untrue. I'm sure that was a part of it. Ultimately though the main reason is because he doesn't wanna see him die. That's what I think, at least.
I was mad that they killed Advol early but I saw him in the thumbnail of some episodes later scrolling thru Netflix so uhh. We get to have more Advol later :D idk how tho.
This was around the time when I went in to check out the dub. I would have loved the dub for the first two parts if it weren't for the stupid. fucking. accents. This part doesn't have em. The dub's great y'all I reccomend it for sure. Also I swear I heard Advol's va somewhere else before.
Ep. 11
Another good episode for characterizetion, for Polnareff and Kakyoin this time. I'm glad the Joestars weren't in these episodes. Shrinking down the cast sometimes is good, builds their interpersonal relationships. One thing I'm worried about is how many Polnareff episodes we have gotten, I hope he doesn't die early.
Anyways, fight scenes were great. I especially like the shot where Polnareff gets his ass saved again. By Kakyoin this time.
I like Kakyoin a lot in this episode. He is definitely the guy with the most emotional intelligence. Back and forth between him trying to talk some sense into Polnareff vs Hol and the Hanged man taunting him was good.
I also like how he waits to get out of danger before breaking Polnareff's nose. That's some emotional maturity right there.
Now that Polnareff has calmed down, we can focus on defeating the stand users again.
Kakyoin repeating Polnareff's linea to him when they cornered is nice. It reminds me of how he said "I don't really know why myself" when the crew asked why he wanted to join them. Fun little detail.
Another detail is the crowd's faces wehn Joseph and Jotaro find Advol's body. I couldn't find a good place to mention that.
I should also mention Hol Horse. He is a cowboy. His stand is a gun. His last name is just Horse. When faced with the people he is suppose to kill he just runs away. He also steals the crew's car at some point. I would kill to see him and Dio interact. Truly one of the jjba characters of all time.
Ngl I ugly laughed at him running away at the end. They animated it so well too and for what.
Ep. 12
It was about time we got a Joseph episode.
Polnareff is tying to give Nena some advice about love and shit and he is just. not getting thru to her. This episode is when Polnareff officially became the silly one of the group.
I'm glad to see Joseph be his BT self again. Predicting people's lines and all. Sure, age has made him weaker (evenho he is still absolutely built), but it shouldn't make him stupider. I wish we saw his intelligence at play, outside of this episode.
Hermit purple is a cool stand and seeing it get utilized is always a treat.
This is the first time they show Hamon doesn't work on stands i think? I sort of assumed that was the case but this confirms it. Even with that, Hamon still has a lot of utility. It's weird to see Joseph not use it.
I guess the SPW foundation cleared his record after this. Honestly, I have no idea what they would to without it. Where would we be if it wasn't for Speedwagon's huge crush on Jonathan.
Ep. 13
This is one of my favourite "stand user of the day" episode so far. The stand is fucking sick, the group has good chemistry together. From Polnareff being and idiot to Jotaro and Kakyoin's banter.
My main complaint is that they brought the girl back. I sang praises about her earlier and they took that personally ig. She is only in this episode too. I just don't see the point. Did she need to have a crush on him? One thing I liked about her was seeing Jotaro interact with a stranger that 1. didn't try to kill him 2. Wasn't smitten by him. She leaves after this so it doesn't even matter tham much but y'know.
Ep 14 and 15
I joked about the fog being a stand earlier i didn't think they'd actually go for it. It's definitely a creative one.
Is Polnareff not knowing the stand user and trying to befrend them gonna be a trend? I'm here for it 100%.
Something about Jotaro referencing Columbo delights me.
I don't have much to say about these two episodes. I found them pretty entertaining but not much to note about. Other than Polnareff licking the toilet.
And this is it i'm pretty sure. These take a lot of time to write but I like journaling my thoughts. Mostly for myself, aslo for my 3 mutuals.
We'll probably get a Kakyoin episode soon. He hasn't used his main stand ability at all since episode 2. I get why, but it's a bit of a shame.
⯌ Stardust Crusaders Ep 1-8 thoughts
30 June 2023
Finished the first 8 episodes of Stardurst Crusaders, I like journaling my thoughts as I watch so here they are:
- The switch from BT to SC is really jarring. It feels like I'm watching an alternate universe a lot of the time. I think if I could rewrite one thing for the first two parts I'd get rid of hamon in favor of stands, stands are better as a magic system for me personally.
- I'm really mixed on Joseph. I don't get why they changed the fun loving part of his personality, It would have contrasted well with the rest of the crew. I like his stand, he has used strings and ropes a lot of times before, it's versatile, suits him well. Also connects with Holly's stand.
- I thought him being unbelievably racist was pretty funny. Seems in character tbh.
- And uhh there were some situations where hamon could have easily fixed it, but we almost never see Joseph use it.
- Jotaro is not... the most interesting character but he doesn't hamper my enjoyment of the show or anything. His solution to a problem is usually pretty simple, I actually kind of like that. (Because one issue i have with the first two parts is how contrived the fight scenes can get. What's more annoying is that the show thinks it's being clever. The fight scenes in CS are better written imo.)
- Jotaro's personality meshes well with the rest of the cast.
- I love Jotaro's (And Star Platinum's!) design. Something about it really clicks with me. It's the main reason why I like him. Jotaro's hat that blends into his hair, brightly colored shirt under his school uniform -which he has modified with chains and two colorful belts- all work great together. I also like what they did with his eye shape.
- I don't know why I like Star Platinum so much though. His wild hair and the crown that puts his eyes in shadow is really cool.
- Advol MY MAN. I think his design is my favourite outside of Jotaro's. He is definitely the knowledgable one of the group. The way he delivers expesitions never feels jarring to me. He hasn't done much outside of the early episodes, I'm hoping he gets to do some more stuff later. Also his stand is amazing. Ultra HD Blaziken.
- Polnareff is ok. I like him. I like his fight with the doll stand thing. His stand is pretty cool, I like fencing. He is the funniest out of everyone in the cast so far. Most of the jokes with him landed for me. He is a bit arrogant but he also respects his opponents.
- K
akyoin
is probably my fave out of the main 5. I think my favourite scene so far is when Jotaro removes the flesh spider thingy from his brain. It's moreso a Jotaro scene, i mean, he puts his life on danger just to save a person who tried to kill him hours earlier. You can tell how bad Kakyoin feels about the whole situation, you can see him tearing up.
- I also like the scene where the group tells Polnareff to offer Anne (the little girl) to stay with them without wounding her ego too much, since they know she doesn't have a penny on her. Polnareff of course calls her stinking poor and a freeloader. Everyone in the group is like "goddamit" while Kakyoin laughs in the background lol.
- He definitely has something to hide, I can't really shake that feeling. Probably a tragic backstory but with the way ep 8 ended it might be something else.
- Hermit Purple calling him a traitor probably has to do with the new stand user Dio sent (presumably). I still trust him. I don't think he was Dio's servant all this time.
- Speaking of Anne, I like her actually. I was surprised too. I thought she was gonna be irrelevant like Poco (the kid from part 1). Her interactions with the main cast is really fun, it reveals a lot about them. She isn't annoying, I like having her around because she isn't on every scene. She shows up when she needs to.
- I think it would be for the best if she stayed on Singapore, she probably will.
- Some other things I wanna mention:
- It think it would be cool if some of the stands had a lil bit of personality. Not like a separate conciousness or anything. Just some moments. It would give stands a fun lil dynamic with their users.
- Some of the stand encounters are not really necessary tbh. They drag a bit too much.
These are just my first impressions :D. There is still a lot of episodes to go... 40 to be exact.
